December Holiday Lights in the Park...

Restaurant was recommended by a gas station clerk up the street. 5 adults and 5 children were seated quickly as a walk-in on a busy Saturday night. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Drinks were lemonade, sweet tea, pepsi and beer. Food ranged from PBJ, grilled cheese, quesadilla, club sandwich, french dip, hot roast beef, catfish and walleye. I would definitely go back...

A gathering of 10 close friends brought us to Chances Are. A reservation garnered us a pre-set table ready upon our arrival. We were lead couple and immediately were cheerfully greeted by waitress Jenny. She took our drink order and watched as the remaining eight arrived gradually and greeted them in similar friendly manner. She stayed available, taking all orders and serving them almost simultaneous, hot and as requested. Many different entrées were chosen and all seemed very satisfied. My wife had a large chicken and greens salad, while I had the pork tenderloin plated dinner with fried potatoes, onions and peppers. Very good! Again, Jenny was very delightful and made our super very enjoyable.

Not that impressed despite hearing it’s a local favorite

My wife and I ate hear once and was somewhat disappointed having heard some good things. The service was slow and several mistakes were made with our orders. Once the orders were served we found the food to be decent but very little flavor. All the breading tasted the same whether on the onion rings (not ordered), the country fried steak, or the chicken. All was very bland. I’ve heard breakfast is good but have been unwilling to go back. Would eat here only if other places were closed, which is what brought us here in the first place.

We have always looked forward to coming here when down at our lake house but things are starting to slide. He has lost the love! Last night we ordered the queen and king cut Prime rib at $17 and $22. Salad bar and baked potato. We were there at 5:30, and the salad bar was a mess a lot of empty containers. None of the staff ever checked to see what needed to be refilled. We had just started eating our tiny salad when out comes our food. I like to have time to eat my salad and drink my glass of wine before they bring out my dinner. Being rushed through my meal is not pleasant. We both noticed that the prime ribs were just the same size..should be able to see the $5 difference. We asked our waitress if they looked the same and she said she would tell the kitchen. Also our not so baked but hard microwaved potatoes were cold and hard. She took them back, and they were hotter, but still terrible!!! If you say baked it should be truly baked and fluffy. Not a good meal at all. The upside was, they only charged us for queens. Going down hill because of lack of caring any more. Won't be back any time soon...makes me sad. It was a favorite...

Home cooked meals that are very good!

Although due to the smoke smell in this restaurant we cannot eat in house, we order take out. The food is served in generous portions and tastes great! Dishes including fried chicken, the chicken fried chicken, the sautéed grouper, along with other dishes are exceptional! I wish they did not allow smoking. I would love to dine in.

The Very Best Chicken at the Lake

My family calls me “The Chicken Man” because I could eat fried chicken every day of the week. In fact on a recent 15 day vacation I ate chicken 15 days in a row, so I do know good chicken when I taste it. I drive 60 miles round trip to get their great chicken. On a scale of 1-5, I rate their chicken 5+. The only drawback is some smoke drifts in from the bar that is in a separate room, so if a little smoke bothers you, keep that in mind.

We're a group of bikers who travel through this area often. We came in as a group of 6. We were treated very kindly, respectful and our food was quickly delivered and great. I received a plate full of fruit that was delicious on a super hot day. We will return soon!

We tried their fried chicken, since the previous reviewer loved it so much. Sadly, our fried chicken was really awful. (Bones were black, white meat was tough, and a feather on a wing.) The tator tots were mushy and greasy. We had to throw it all in the trash.

Great family and casual dining place. There fried chicken was best I had in a long time. As always the fruit cobblers with ice cream hit the spot. Food came quickly and we had good service.

Our food was under cooked and slimy. Rude waiter. Too expensive. Over heard the owners and staff talking bad about visitors/tourists. Won't be wasting our money again. There's better places to eat at the Ozarks.

Great value, we had the shrimp special, prime rib, chicken fried steak. 7 ladies on a trip for the weekend. Amazing staff!!!!

Great fried chicken

I had a yen for some fried chicken and had heard that Chance's R had decent fried chicken. Not decent, absolutely the best on the Westside bar none. I had to let it sit a bit it was so right-out-of-the-fryer hot. They brought me a half of a chicken, mashed potatoes and cream gravy, basic salad and a roll. I found out that they had a true lemon merengue pie and had some of that as well. My bill? $20! On a Saturday night. Granted it is off tourist season, but still $20? My waitress got a $10 tip. Totally worth every penny.
