We noticed this cafe was buzzing on our trip south to Womad when we went to the adjacent (new, clean and very good facilities) public toilets in the park. As we'd already had morning tea in Te Kuiti, we decided to break our journey here on the way home. Which we did. Along with lots of other Womad-goers. The place... More

Whenever we're in NZ we make sure we call in as the food and coffee are just to die for! This last trip we were lucky enough to past by Pio Pio twice and introduce the friends travelling with us to this awesome cafe.

Food is always good, pretty quick with delivering your choice of food. Coffee is ozone so we know never a bad coffee. Best stop off for snacks when traveling from New Plymouth north.

Whenever we head north from New Plymouth we stop at the Fat Pigeon in Piopio. It's just over 1 & a half hours from New Plymouth so good for a toilet stop & a stretch as well as some damn fine coffee. The cabinet food is all tempting as is their extensive menu. Reasonably pricy but you get what you pay... More

First time diner. Didn't expect a great meal but was delighted with the quality of my meal, and options available. Very good coffee also. The young staff were both friendly and capable. The restaurant was packed when we arrived, so we shared a large table with others. All very easy. If you arrive in the middle of the day I... More

Good roadside cafe, mainly self service, but with a cooked range of meals. Sizeable range of pies, quiches and cakes.

The Fat Pigeon is a purposely built cafe brillantly located next to Kara Park at the north end of Piopio. We offer a wide range of freshly made cafe fare, complemented by Ozone coffee. We have cabinet food as well as a board menu. Indoor and outdoor seating plus a play area for the littlies, and a sandpit outside. Possibly the best stopping point on the road to Taranaki.
