We've been a number of times now to Lochmara cafe, and have called in for a light lunch or drinks after being boating for the morning. The food is simple, but tasty and well presented and the environment is pristine. If you're using your own boat, call ahead on VHF channel 67 and they will let you either tie up... More

A last minute decision to come out to Lochmara and pleased we did. A hidden gem. Excellent food and friendly service, it impressed our group. Suggestion; ambient music. The birds are lovely to listen to, however, background guitar or instrumentals would make it magic.

Would come back just to eat that. It was PERFECT. Melts in your mouth. Wasn't too impressed with everything else on Lochmara but the salmon was just. Perfect.

Probably not a great time to visit over a public holiday. Long waits and average service. Great views and lovely venue, maybe have to try another time.

The cafe is in a stunning position, well worth spending the day. The food was not spectacular value, but you don't mind paying a slight premium when you remember that everything has to come over by water taxi. Coffee was good and there was a fair range of meal choices. Our favourites were the ceasar salad and steak sandwich. Perfect... More

We used Lochmara as a mid-point destination for our walk. It was a great break and on a fine day offers heaps of activities. Staff were friendly and most accommodating.

We took friends on our boat to lunch here. We all ordered the fish chowder and oh how disappointed we all were. $24 a smallish bowl which had no flavor and virtually no seafood in it at all. Mostly white sauce with a little potato. In contrast we are having the same today at Jester House by Mapua - absolutely... More

We visited on a weekday in termtime, so it was relatively quiet. The staff were lovely and the coffee and cakes excellent. Outside Lochmara is full of interesting things to see but so is the café - the photo wall of the place being built, the wall of handprints, the art - so it's a good place to relax.

We had spent the day kayaking, fishing and walking and walked nearly an hour to get to this restaurant. We were really looking forward to a good meal hopefully featuring a good range of the lovely seafood the region is so well known for. We were very disappointed therefore to only find farmed salmon on the menu and really the... More
