We made impromptu stop in Fumay and this place was busy so we decided to try it. The food was local and traditional and tasty. Service was cheerful with the owner carefully surveying everything. A good restaurant cannot afford a mistake or a dissasisfied customer in a a small town! Plenty of local colour. Everyone in my group was happy except me as there was no meat-free option. When I ordered something I thought was meat-free the kitchen couldn't hold back and spinkled it with lard. Oh well. Recommended... but if you don't eat meat or pork you should read the menu carefully.

Spent 2 days at Fumet on a cruise on the river. This restaurant was closed on the Monday we arrived and we ate the the Italian close-by (not good). But it was worth waiting for the menu du terroir at L’Hostellerie de la Vallee. Oufs en cocotte with mushrooms, lardons and cheese sauce, followed by boudin blanc and then mirabelle en feuillete. All local and all well cooked. €18.90 for three courses with service included. Wine reasonably priced also. Pic is of the starter.

We had a great evening at Hostellerie de la Vallé with the of us. We started out with some delicious oysters and fine champagne. Some of us had meat; entrecôte de bœuf and steak haché with home fries, and some had fish. This all was accompanied by some great white and red wines recommended by the owner, and they were delicious. As was the food! To top it all off some had ice cream with fresh strawberries and whipped cream and the irish coffee was delicious as well. The service was good and the waitress and the 'patron' were very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed it and will most certainly go there again.

Had a very disappointing evening meal here. The amuse bouchée of tinned tuna paste and gristly sausage rolls was truly awful. Our mains weren't a lot better. Not a vegetable in sight. Go elsewhere.

I'm sad to hear about this since you seemed to have enjoyed the whole meal. You've clearly eaten everything, asked for more fries, dessert. And said everything was great. Oh and you could have asked for veggies, we have plenty of them. We wish you the best, elsewhere.

The Hostellerie de la Vallée, in Fumay in the Ardennes department, has just changed Owner since July 1, 2024.
After the Check-out of Michèle and Antoine Douchamps, Frédéric Pierangeli, Chef de Cuisine at Moulin Labotte in Haybes, took over the reins, while keeping the excellent Chef Laurent Ponsart at the head of the kitchen.

We have seen the initially good price/quality restaurant regularly change owners/chefs over the course of the (now 8) years. Unfortunately, the last time it really stood out: limited menu and clearly everything had been prepared in advance. We were still having an aperitif when the main course arrived. Fries were flat and well done in color. They are friendly, but they have a very fast food feeling. Unfortunately not worth repeating...
