I’d been wanting to visit here for a while but after a weekday lunch was left rather disappointed. The location is obviously amazing and if you can secure a table outside the views are brilliant and perfect for people watching too. It was relatively chilly...during my visit but the heaters work well and made it a cosy area. There’s some tables suitable for dining alone too, so I wasn’t left feeling that I was taking up too much space!
The member of waiting staff was superb - really friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and made me feel really welcome. Getting additional drinks was never a problem with his attentiveness and service was generally fast. Beers seemed only to be available by the bottle rather than draught, but there was a decent enough range.
I opted for the “warm prawns” dish as a starter but found it very unenjoyable - the prawns seemed to have been squashed with no sort of texture, didn’t seem very fresh, and the overpowering butter and lemon sauce took over. I didn’t realise that the “croque monsieur” was served with fries, making it large enough to not have needed a starter, but many of the fries were overcooked, burnt and inedible. The sandwich itself was alright though and adding the eggs a worthwhile touch.
Overall it’s a great setting with brilliant staff, but for the quality of the food ended up being very expensive and I left feeling it was more of a tourist spot than somewhere for a memorable meal. I won’t be rushing back.More
