Friendly staff and great smells but the pot coffee, $2+, tastes on the weak side to me. Prepared drinks are fine. The pastries run out early and the leftovers look quite dry and unappealing. Inside, it's a bit dark with just one big window in the front and the atmosphere feels hard and noisy without carpets or colorful art on... More

Really friendly team, nothing was too much trouble. Coffee was great and my husband claims that the muffins are the best. The icing on the cake is that one of the local customers plays classical guitar outside in the morning and it is beautiful (but presumably just in the summer).

It's a small location with a varied menu. They have hot and cold drinks and many snack options with a nice seating area.

Almost always a quickly moving line here and a good variety of coffee based beverages. I buys beans here as well. If you close your eyes you'll never mix this up with Rome, but the standard is high for a small college town

Breaking New Grounds is inviting, which is probably the reason for being crowded most of the time. If you come with a laptop and need an outlet... there is a chance you won't. Otherwise, it's a really nice atmosphere in this small university town.

If you're looking for an alternative to New Hampshire's endless supply of Dunkin' Donuts franchises, try Breaking New Grounds. Cozy and usually crowded with students and locals during the morning hours, Breaking New Grounds offers a variety of locally roasted coffees and a somewhat limited but excellent baked good (try the almond "croissants" which are actually rectangular but buttery and... ...but really wish they would update and remodel the interior. At least try a bit harder to make it a nice place to stay. Not impressed with this lack of effort but on the other hand the service is feat and the coffee and baked items are top notch.

The Breaking new grounds family franchise has been at the heart of the sea coasts's coffee scene for over twenty years. They roast their own coffee and have a wide selection of great beverages and yummy eats. It is hard to finds a better place to hange out in Durham

The place to go in downtown Durham for a coffee and a snack. WiFi on site so it's not at all unusual to see undergrads working on their laptops and enjoying one of the many flavors of freshly brewed coffee or tea.
