Would not recommend. The staff was visibly stressed keeping up with customer requests. Food is overpriced. A salad with chicken cost over $30. 4 shrimp cost $20. Bread for the table costs $3/order (which we informed after the fact). No kids menu. Adult menu is...limited, and depending on the night, certain dishes are "sold out". Non-alcoholic drinks tasted like seltzer water, flavored with a bit of grenadine syrup.More

Ok so I have lived in Hampton for 20 years and have never tried Hagans for early Mother’s Day dinner. My cocktail was very good, my husbands lamb shank and couscous was delicious. Cesar salad was really good. My entree, short rib was dry with...really no gravy or sauce, pretty disappointing and I got a Stella Artois beer on draft and it tasted gross, it was off. Very nice atmosphere, very nice staff. I think I just ordered the wrong thingMore

Hagens expanded right at the start of Covid outbreak. It is great to see a local restaurant do so well after the pandemic , if you visit you will find out why! Great food, very friendly staff and the owner is often on hand to...make sure your visit is enjoyable. Only tip I would ever give to anyone who has not been before, don’t sit near the entry door on a cold night unless you don’t mind keeping your coat on.More

I had been looking to try this based on a friends recommendation for a while. Nice atmosphere, sat in the bar at a pub table. Bartender is handling the entire bar, pub tables and restaurant (BUSY). I had Statler chicken with a stuffed cubanelle pepper....Chicken was chicken, bland not seasoned much if at all. Pepper was inedible because stuffing -rice was was way undercooked. Bartender eventually came back when I waved him over and requested a side of mashed which came after bland chicken was finished. They were however tasty. My friend had short ribs which were enjoyed. Pretty limited menu, not much seafood for a seaside town in my opinion. Wouldn’t hurry back but glad I went it’s been on my list for a while and it’s now been ✅ off the list.More

Saw this across the street from another restaurant I ate at a couple nights prior. Looked nice so I decided to check it out. Loved the decor and the wait staff seemed cordial. Ordered the shrimp scampi as I was in the mood for seafood...but limited fish menu for some reason. What I got was a big pile of pig slop. No other way to put it. What school or barnyard do you need to go to to learn how to make this trough food. First, the shrimp were over cooked and very bland. The linguine was way over cooked to the point of mush. Should be al dente. Look it up if you need to. Don’t know what the scampi sauce was made from but it was horrible. Way, way too much garlic to the point you could not taste anything but garlic. And I love garlic! It wasn’t even fresh garlic. It was minced from a jar. Basically this was, literally the worst scampi I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve probably had scampi in a hundred restaurants all over the country and other countries. I’m sorry but whomever made this really should go back to chefs school, or at least reference a couple of cook books or YouTube videos might even help. So sad that people actually take this as good. Bar tender was so much nicer to be after one of her regulars started talking to me. Too bad that’s the way it has to work but, at least I got better service after that.More

Very nice setting, very nice menu and excellent service. We dine out often and Hagen’s Grill is one of our go to establishments. We appreciate quality over quantity and find Hagan’s to be as good as any restaurants in Portsmouth or Newburyport.

I never liked Hagan's in the past, but thought I'd try it again upon my husband's urging-my opinion has not changed. The room was cold and the service was slow. Michelle was a nice waitress and was obliging, but the food could not make up...for it. It was disappointing, esp since I had guests from out of town. Will not return.More

I used to frequent Hagman’s all the time and now I now why I do not go. The two Caesar salad‘s that we had were limp. My wife’s shrimp ceviche had no taste and we had to ask for hot sauce to spice it up...a little bit. She sent half of it back. One of my guests from Italy had the Italian salad and he ate only a third of it. We had three orders of crab cakes which were marginally decent. We also had some tuna which was the best of all the dishes. We ordered a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc which is a really nice wine but they served it warm. Really serving a Sauvignon Blanc warm. If you want to really dining experience go to Tinos or CR’s in Hampton.More

Food excellent as always been for years now. Portion size way down and prices significantly higher. Extra charge for bread now is annoying at these prices.

We dine here about once a month. Much easier to get in with the recent expansion. Menu has been shortened a bit, but still enough selection to suit any taste. Wines are reasonably priced and staff is very sociable and attentive.

We went to get a healthy meal prior to running a half marathon with my daughter. We set at a high top table in the bar. Food was fantastic!! We had shrimp with linguini, Burnt skin salmon, Rib eye special and cod. Over the top...great! Cocktails great. Server was very busy as she was manning the bar too but very attentive. We seriously considered going back the next day it was so good. We did not experience difficulty hearing each other in the bar area.More

I have been to this restaurant several times. The food has always been outstanding. The downside is the noise. One can not converse without shouting because the acoustics are poor and need improvement. This is the first time I have been since the remodel and...COVID. It was my hope that acoustic ceiling tiles would have been installed to correct this situation. Given all the wonderful restaurants in the area, I will not be back unless the acoustics situation is resolved. This is why it only gets 3 out of 5More

High top tables belie some of the excellent dishes here: for example -scallop appetizer, cod tempura, salmon.Service was excellent team work, and just the right timing. We had a challenge with one vegetarian, because the internet menu was out of date. Call on a dish...if critical. A step up from surrounding eateries!More
