This is bar/pub in the centre of Portsmouth and is quite popular. There is a good selection of craft ales. Did not eat but what I saw of the food being served - portions are large/huge! The bar staff were great.

Like your burgers big and custom made? Like hand cut, well browned fries? How about sitting at a window in downtown Portsmouth watching the world go by? If you answered Yes to one, or all three, then you are going to love Fat Belly's!!!

Came for dinner prior to seeing a show at the SRT. Made reservations ahead, but they said they didn't have them. Not a problem as they has an open table. Place was very busy and extremely tight. Nice selection of nightly specials and I had...More

I took my wife and two girls here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The food was ok and the service was OK. The decor lacked anything, but maybe that is the point...not sure. I think there are much better places to eat in Portsmouth.

OMG stay away! The place was half full yet still we waited 55 for and order of fries and a burger. The young waitress wanted to be anywhere except for there. The decor is something less than rustic, perhaps rustic/rundown /dirty would fit. Food was...More

I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy your visit Rick. Could you give me the details of specifically when you were there so I can look into it a little more?

This is a Portsmouth "must experience". The food is great. It's a "pubby" type atmosphere but fine for the family. Prices are great for the amount of food you get. If you get Abbey as a server you're getting the best there is! Friendly and...More

The only positive was the staff. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive. Greasy burger, greasy onion rings, greasy fries. Very jammed in tables and the owners spent 12 cents on decor.

Service was very good. Food was also very good, burger cooked perfect, corn chowder full of flavor and sweet potato fries. Would go back.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
I would it if a manager would explain your tipping policy to me, I had one of your bartenders auto grad 20% a one top at your bar for lunch-she explained that it's in case someone doesn't tip-they still St 20%-Tipping is a practiced social custom in the United States. Tipping by definition is voluntary - at the discretion of the customer. In restaurants offering traditional table service, a gratuity of 15-20% of the amount of a customer's check (15% or more in New York City) is customary when adequate service is provided. I personally believe your bartender is hustling people in a double tips...I have never heard such a thing during lunch, at many restaurants over the years I've worked at they have had auto grads for as small as a party of 4 or if you forget to close out your tab at the end of the night...

Actually we get this question a lot in person. It's not an auto gratuity as you said but in fact a pre-authorized transaction from your bank/our bank/credit card processor. They pre-authorize more than the original amount... More
