Simple and delicious burgers, dogs & fries. An establishment in Portsmouth - it's a must-visit. There's often a line, but it goes quickly and it somehow always proves to be worth the wait.

Simple burgers and hotdogs, chili dogs, but open late and always friendly and funny. We still go there sometimes when we're in Portsmouth. When I was in high school a group of us were hungry late at night and nothing was open. We called Gilley's not knowing what they were, and asked them if they delivered! Ha! We ended up... More

I drove around the Portsmouth downtown area for a few minutes trying to find a parking spot and had no luck. It was a Friday night just after suppertime. In front of Gilley's, however, there were three parking spots, so in we went. It looks like an old tram converted to a diner and has character and history pouring out... More

This is what it is, a no frills, "greasy spoon" diner that has really good double cheese burgers & fries. Nothing fancy (eat off paper plates), but a fun place to grab a burger (with the works) and fries after a couple beers at the end of the night. This is NOT the typical Portsmouth eatery and that's part of... More

Six of us stopped for a quick lunch since this place was right next to our parking garage. It is basically a hot dog/hamburger place with about 10 stools in a pretty small area. The hot dogs were enjoyed by those who had them. The hamburgers were all judged over cooked and tough. The fries were average. Only one person... More

As most will tell you it is great late night stop. It seems as popular with the locals as the tourists from the nearby hotels. Food is not probably the main draw here, but it will do the trick. Everyone seemed friendly while we were there and you get a chance to talk to locals and the cook while you... More

First, be prepared to wait in line. Eat Hotdogs & burgers. Stay away from the fries. This place is basic and good for late night when all else is closed.

I grew up in Portsmouth, when Gilley's was pulled to the town square by a truck, and we would drive up to the window to order at night. It is in a permanent location now. This place may not appeal to some. You must go inside to order, and it is very small and usually quite crowded, but somehow it... More

We arrived in Portsmouth pretty late while driving up the coast, only to find that most restaurants had already closed. Thinking we might be stuck buying frozen dinners at our hotel, we stumbled upon Gilley's. Apparently this place has been around for decades, and it was clear that the locals love it. A line was forming that extended outside the... More
