This is by far the worst cuban food, I have ever tasted in my life! This place was recommended by a friend who lives in the area, ordered a churascco and arroz congri, food came out cold the steak had absolutely no seasoning. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE THE WORST TASTING FOOD EVER!! THERE ARE BETTER CUBAN PLACES YOU... More

I have been to Alvarez Cafe several times - its a neighborhood place: nothing fancy but excellent food. Being of Cuban descent, we are always interested in seeing how "authentic" food is. Went to dinner with a group on Saturday night and the place continues to please our palate! This place is almost as good as home cooking. Bistec empanizado... More

Real Cuban taste without the fancy whistles of others who claim to be but are just expensive and watered down flavors. If you want authentic Cuban, this is the place to go!

I was excited to receive a flyer from a girl standing in front of my building advertising for Simply Cuban. It was only several blocks away and I love Cuban sandwiches. Several of us decided to try it out for lunch. First we sat at a table and the waitress didn't come around for 15 min. Finally she came brought... More

I would normally give this type of restaurant an average review, but had to give it a "very good" review due to their great service. Staff is very attentive and courteous. Mr Alvarez, the restaurant's proprietor, was extremely courteous. Visited the restaurant for breakfast and they had a great selection, with many options, from your typical Cuban breakfast to sandwich... More

I'm from Miami and Alvarez use to be the spot where I could feel like I was back in Miami. But lately service is terrible ( when usually only maybe two other people are in the place) I have a small child and I don't feel like children are welcomed. He isn't a "bad" child. But he is a child.... More

I have been eating here since I am a little boy, and as an adult I take my family here, even now order Christmas Eve dinner here. If you want to experience good ol' home made authentic cubin cuisine, this is the place to go! The atmosphere is still warm and inviting and the family who owns the business for... More

I grew up in Elizabeth and Alvarez Cafe was the place to go. It is a family owned restaurant that has been in Elizabeth for ever. Their food is your authentic/traditional Cuban food and may I add the real thing.... from their rice and beans to their Cuban sandwich....Delish!

We discovered the Alvarez Cafe driving around during a stop-over at the Newark airport [EWR]. Located on Elizabeth Ave in Elizabeth, it looked like a good place for lunch. It was that and more, featuring well prepared dishes with a Spanish-American flavor - maybe Cuban, but I've never been to Cuba so who knows? On subsequent EWR stop overs we... More
