We found a small window and decided to get a quick bite. Called and they had tables open...Lucky for us! Free parking across the street made things easy, and we were seated promptly despite no reservation on a busy day. Wonderful appetizers! plenty of food (honestly you could fill up on the appetizers!) The entrees were quite good. The wait... More

Spanish Tavern is in Ironbound area of Newark, has its own parking lot across the street. It's a reasonable walk from Prudential Center (Devil's games) Penn Station, or Ferry Street. It's a friendly neighborhood restaurant, tablecloth, good service with bowls of minestrone soup free with dinner. We had a seafood casserole with salsa verde or green sauce.. Fish always fresh,... My granddaughter talked my wife and I into going out for Christmas dinner by generously offering to treat us. We reluctantly (because we're so used to staying at home when she and our daughter - her mother visit at Christmas time) agreed. We're already looking forward to doing it again next Christmas and hopefully for many to come. Six family... More

This is one of the best Portuguese restaurants in NJ. Great service, atmosphere and outstanding food. Be sure to come with a big appetite. Friendly and warm environment with assisted parking in the lot across the street.

There meal started with a "caldo gallego" that was excellent. It was included in the meal, so we probably could have skipped the "pulpo gallego", but it was excellent as well! The "paella marinera" and the "paella valenciana" were both disappointing, though. On a scale of 1-10, the first was a 5 and the second was a 7. Seemed like... More

We decided to have lunch, and what a lovely meal! The chorizo starters were spicy, bread was warm, and the sangria was cold...I'd have ordered the same-again, but she wanted a real meal. Salmon and rice, plus an espresso and sambuca before we headed back to Penn Station for the train home. We'll be back!

My wife and I dined at the Spanish Tavern in Newark one evening in October 2016. The restaurant is on two levels. The area for large groups is downstairs, in the basement, and there is no elevator. There are restrooms on that level. The menu is very large, with an emphasis on seafood. However, it also includes steak and other... More

We dined here on a recent Saturday night. The waiter was knowledgable, pleasant, and always checking on us. We did not order appetizers because they provide a bowl of soup to all diners. It was not the best I have had, more broth then soup, but a nice light start. On the recommendation of our waiter we ordered 3 of... More

First of all, when they tell you all entrees are good for two. You better believe it. It may seems to be a Spanish seafood restaurant, but all meat dishes were great. They served their complimentary veggies noodle soup (homemade) first. We split a salad and two entrees. The bill came $78 including tax. Did I mention they offer free... More
