A quirky restaurant that promised much with friendly staff but unfortunately the food didn't live up to what we had hoped. After tasty starters (tomato soup for me and duck confit for my wife) the main courses were disappointing. My beef fillet was tough and my wife's yellowtail seemed over cooked. Our most disappointing South African dining experience

Cafe des Arts is not a pretentious restaurant with fine dining. It's a warm & friendly place with great waiting staff. The blackboard menu is inviting and well priced. The dishes are well prepared and delicious. Wine prices are excellent too. The fresh yellowtail is a must! We've been twice this visit and will be back again before we leave.

As a compensation to a premium dinner we wanted to have a relaxed dinner without reservation. The restaurant is very relaxed with convenient furniture. The food was very good - we enjoyed the mussles and slowly cooked pork. Service was good. We only missed a little a variety of wine in glasses - for a wine town 2 "house vines"... More

We had the most fantastic dinner at Cafe Des Arts. It is a bit hidden away but a real gem and definitely worth a visit. The service was incredibly friendly and the chef is exceptional. Thanks for a lovely evening. Sarah and Philip

My wife and I took a slow drive to Franschhoek recently and stopped over for a late breakfast. We chose a restaurant off the main road and nestled under huge trees and next to the library. Our breakfast was served promptly and exactly as we had ordered. The coffee was excellent, as was the service. We looked longingly at the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. The restaurant itself is quirky and comfortable (no white linen here and none the worse for it) and I should imagine that when it is warm enough it would be lovely to lunch/dine outside under the trees as the restaurant is set back from the main road. The food was very good and I... More

After scouring TripAdvisor for restaurant choices in Frranschoek for a romantic weekend away, I chose Cafe des Arts for lunch on Saturday and boy was I glad I did. We loved every single moment we were there. My husband seriously contemplated cancelling our dinner reservation to go back again. We had the curried mussels and tomato and basil soup starters.... My wife and I popped in on Sunday morning for a breakfast before leaving. Lovely quiet area outside the old Library building. Menu of breakfasts all looked delicious, we ordered excellent cappuccinos and were advised of a bit of a wait for food due to a table of approx. 30 people celebrating something and about to be served their breakfasts.... This is the second time I have eaten at Cafe Des Arts and once again I was a very happy customer. The restaurant is situated off the main road and is quite quirky in its decor and has artwork for sale on its walls. In warm weather they have lots of table outside under the trees. There is a lot...
