The Gallery Cafe menu sounded fantastic but what we just got did not measure up to the gourmet prices. Fig, Gorgonzola and Parma Ham starter had no actual Gorgonzola. Melted into the dressing and drizzled over with the balsamic apparently? The meal was pleasant but...More

We visited Prince Albert in June, stayed at n guesthouse in town and our host made reservations at the Gallery Cafe. It is a art gallery with the restaurant on the first floor. What a nice surprise! Surrounded by paintings but still cosy and inviting...More

The staff freak out when busy. They were unhelpful and not friendly. Foor smelled nice but they would not accomodate dinner seakers.

Food was excellent although the waiter had no clue about the wines. We were well informed about all the dishes and I would recommend booking in advance as they were busy for Monday evening

All walls are full of paintings that can be bought. Menu on a board with local specialties. The wildebeest was excellent, the local dessert wine not my taste. Staff is friendly to children but it is on the first floor without elevator.

Food was tasty and service quick, but completely overpriced. The only restaurant open on a Sunday night.

The artwork and the decor is excellent - it gives an authentic arty ambiance. The service was also very good and friendly. The idea of having the menu on a black board brought to your table is a nice alternative - especially if done by...More

Brent Phillips-White, owner and executive chef at the Gallery Café is self-trained and uses his passion for ingredients and fresh produce to excellent use creating dishes inspired by his many and varied travels.
Elements of the Mediterranean, Middle East and the wonderful spices of Asia, from India to Vietnam, are incorporated into many of the dishes. The most popular meals feature game (currently black wildebeest fillet), local Karoo lamb dishes and duck, port and black cherry pie. The favoured vegetarian meals are the North Indian Brinjals Albaras or the vegan dish Quinoa Risotto.

In winter, heartier fare such as lamb bredie (stew), or heart-warming shanks in a rich tomato and red wine sauce, or Osso Bucco with Saffron Risotto reappears.

The Gallery Café’s lamb, vegetable, chicken and game stocks are made from scratch and Brent takes great care to source local ingredients, many from the garden he planted to supply the restaurant. Other components of his meals come from farms and farmers’ markets between Prince Albert and George; Belgian Chocolate is couriered monthly from Gauteng. The menu for the Gallery Café remains consistent with seasonal changes, made to accommodate the availability and quality of the produce.

Brent has a small team in the kitchen to help create these dishes daily.
