We enjoyed a stop-over in Swellendam and our hosts, at the B&B we stayed at, recomended De Vagebond Restaurant. Well... the fare was hugely overpriced - both of us enjoy a good steak and uaually judge any restaurant by their particular brand. We both ordered a 220g rump at R135 (normally restaurants offer 250/350g sizes) The cost of a 440g,... More

We then waited and waited and waited and eventually demanded that we placed an order for drinks. We did and then waited and waited and waited . The food was superb!!! Even the kiddies mac and cheese was no ordinary meal... the cheese sauce was delicious, as was the Malay curry, hake and chips and the calamari steak. And for dessert..... pecan nut and maple pie with ice cream and fruit...OH WOW! The owner was friendly and the atmosphere perfect

we chose this restaurant as it had an extensive menu which was family friendly - I wished I had paid more attention to previous reviews commenting on portion size as we got caught out and were really embarrassed by having to leave so much food. There were 4 of us and so we shared a tasting platter for 2 people... More

My son sat by mistake on the spikes placed on the low wall of the restaurant and asked the manager for a plaster and perhaps some disinfectant. His first words: he is not responsible as he is renting the place, also I should look better after my son. He then walked away. I have a message for this uptight individual:... More

Brilliant - chilled, relaxed, lovely environment full of laughter and great food. Authentically South African, authentically western cape! We loved it.

This is an excellent restaurant with a very attentive manager and we had a very special waiter named April. The food is excellent, tasty big portions and the personal attention and care was exceptional. I do recommend De Vagebond highly whenever eating in Swellendam.

Driving around one night we spied his restaurant and decided to take a change. Sitting close to the brazer in the cool evening air, we made our choices and waited to see what the food was like. Well we really were not disappointed. Between us we had the bobotie, soup and a delicious salad. Fair prices.

Under New ownership since 1 December 2010, it became a Family Restaurant serving Local Cuisine and Traditional South African Dishes, including; Bobotie, Game Pie, Kudu Fillet, Springbok Shank, Malva Pudding. We stock some of the regions finest wines and have a fully stocked bar. A big fire will be burning in the evenings if the weather allows to welcome all to a romantic night of the best South Africa have to offer.
