My first experience with Mexican food was in Roswell in the mid '50s...yes 1950s! It was a place very much like Popo's, just a local restaurant and the place where I experienced and fell in love with sopapillas. Popo's is one of those places where, if it were not a "local Mexican restaurant", it would be considered a "dive"! But... More

Consistently good. For true SW taste, order your plate "Christmas" where possible (comes with both red and green sauces. Red is hotter). I also like the chilie rellenos. End with an order of sopapillas for dessert (use honey).

If you like Mexican then this a place you should visit. Everything is between $6.00 and $7.00. Food tastes great and quality is beyond excellent. You will not be disappointed.

Popo's is a local restaurant off the main streets of Roswell but still downtown. There are no frills just great Mexican food. Being from Arizona, I feel qualified to say this could be one of the best in the SW. The red and green enchilada sauces were magnificent with delicious layered flavors. The chili relleno was one of the best... More

We are from San Diego and were visiting Roswell last month. We passed by the Popo's by accident as we toured our old stomping grounds. We ate there and loved the food. The service was good, but the food was excellent. We got there early before the flood of people came in. Obviously, this is a favorite hidden gem in... More

We are from Maine, where there is a shortage of good Mexican, and Popo's is our cure whenever we're in Roswell. This time we had take-out for the first time, and would recommend not trying to do a soft taco plate if you're going to be putting a doggy box in your car; the tacos don't survive the trip well.... If you are looking for true Mexican food you will want to try Popo's . Located in what seems to almost be an industrial area of Roswell this unassuming restaurant serves my favorite Mexican food in all of New Mexico. Every time I'm in town I eat here at least once and would truly be upset if I missed It.... More

Tiny and cramped and always full, but the best food in Roswell. I had never had really good comida tipica before I found Popo's--I wish they were a bit bigger, because we can't get some of our mobility-impaired friends in there.
