During my stay in Banjul, one of the best and delicious food I had was at The Clay Oven. The authentic Indian food I had was fantastic. I had the opportunity to taste from various areas of the menu and all were great. If you are not familiar with Indian foods, the staff provide good advice what to select. The... More

I have had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant at least twice on every trip to The Gambia. Great food to suit all tastes (local and European) ,knowledgeable staff and great service. As a regular traveller to both The Gambia and India I have always found the quality of food excellent

My mistake? Did i order wrongly while having lunch at the Clay Oven? I don't thing so, but maybe. Batter fry king prawns is not a Chinese or Indian specially, and adding some tandoori seasoning to the butter didn't compensate for it sogginess and the very small 'kings', more like babies princes (over 300 dls). Mixed Tandoril, over 500 dls,... More

As ever exceptional value for money, not 5 star by any means neither does try to be, Indian food lovers must visit this place at least once. Varied menu to suit most tastes but if you are struggling to choose they will also cook to order and many variations on hotness or spicy. Staff always polite and attentive Clay Oven... More

The Clay Oven is as close as The Gambia comes to the legendary New York restaurants where the movers and shakers run into each other. When working as a diplomat there, it was rare that we went and didn't run into a businessman or woman who we knew. Don't get me wrong; it is NOT the Four Seasons. But it... More

We've seen their billboards around Kotu and checked their website, which looked very tempting, Went to have dinner with my son. We were a bit early for dinner and the place was empty, except for us. Not really a way to start dinner... However, staff came quickly and we ordered two portions, accompanied with rice and naan. Complementary chutneys and... More

The Clay Oven has been open for 24 years, established in 1991 by Vimal Shah. The restaurant has two menu's, a well established Indian menu and a recently well tried Chinese menu.

The Clay Oven takes pride in quality and excellence. There is a large dining area with a semi circular bar, and an outdoor dining area on a wooden deck surrounded by a palm garden and bar. All making a great ambience to dine in under the stars.

"Our own belief is that a truly fine meal is enjoyed not once but three times - in anticipation, in consumption and in remembrance."
