We were showing off Hudson to visitors by walking to Crimson Sparrow for delicious cocktails and bar food. The four of us shared four superb appetizers, all provocative teasers for the amazing, but pricey chef's prix fixe menu that is the only option in the restaurant. A trip to the restrooms past diners is equally tantalizing.

The food was delicious. The tasting menu is well designed, but the wine pairing was weak. Also the waitresses were confused about the process ("did they bring you wine already?"; "have you had this dish?") and constant loud&happy enquiries "how are we doing here?" With too many words of explanation after every dish... kills the romantic quiet spirit of the... More

Worst expensive meal I've had in a long time. Started off well on 12 course tasting menu with many tasty fish courses but made mistake of sake pairing. Had one small serving of sake (4 sips) for 45 minutes and had to wait until the 4th course for a 2nd small serving of sake. Things went down hill from there... More

I hate when people say that, but it's kind of true. Trendy foodie destination restaurant. Not cheap, but really delicious food.

I was so looking forward to taking my family for dinner at this restaurant on a Saturday night in early October and was so disappointed. The tasting menu was boring, mean in quantity, and occasionally outrageous in that a bowl of tomatoes with a little dressing cannot be cuisine, nor can a tiny couple or pear slices (I doubt they... Thanks for your review. We apologize that the fourth (4th) amuse bouche and the pre-dessert were too small. Hopefully you enjoyed the other 10 courses. For the rest of us, here is the rest of the menu. Periwinkles, Dashi, Soy Japanese Cucumber Shiitake, Gochujang, Soy Prosecco Della Contessa—Italy or Masumi Hiyaoroshi (Sake Pairing) Tomatoes, Sage, Parmesan Brussels Sprouts, Charred Scallion,... I had read some amazing reviews of The Crimson Sparrow and was excited to try their Saturday night tasting menu. I know Hudson is referred to as "Brooklyn North" but the chef here has surpassed hipster and is going for pretenious. Some courses were good such as the smoky mussels and clam, and the pear with rosé granita, but others... More

Brunch for four last Sunday left everybody feeling disappointed. Two people ordered the only egg dish on the menu, with sausages and didn't touch the sausages after the first bite. The blue crab scramble was tasteless and wet, because the crab hadn't been sufficiently drained before mixing it into the dish. My Tate ( fried chicken and waffles), consisted of... More

We have eaten here several times over the years but I am prompted to review as last night was almost like going to a new restaurant. The venue is unchanged and the menu approach remains much the same. BUT the food, wine and ambience just are much better. And they couldn't be nicer or more helpful about health-related substitutions. By... More

The Crimson Sparrow builds on Chef-Owner John McCarthy's reverence for and experience in cooking with Asian flavors utilizing French technique. The Crimson Sparrow's Tasting Menu is a foray into all of these complex, rich and unexpected flavors. It changes approximately every two to three weeks, to reflect seasonality. In addition, some of the best elements of the seasonal menu can be sampled at the bar as part of the restaurant's a la carte menu all of which have a true pact with the cellar and beverage program.
