I hate dry meatballs. Don’t you? Make you feel like you’ve got a mouth full of sawdust sometimes! Blech!
What if I told you there was a place that served juicy meatballs? There is as we found out today!
Angelina’s On The Hill in Lake...Huntington, NY. They serve scrumptiously yummylicious juicy meatballs! I was so happily surprised!
After an exhausting week, I decided to take my Pilar out to an early dinner and we settled on Angelina’s On The Hill because we’ve never gone there before and we’d heard great things about them. We were not disappointed.
This place is a bit difficult to find without GPS because it’s a very sharp turn up onto a hill which you can drive by without even realizing…happened to me on the 7 prior occasions I tried to get here!! But once there, a sweet grandmotherly type lady with a smile and a twinkle in her eye immediately greeted us outside on the patio. Found out later that this is indeed the “Nona” Rosa, and she is there working along with her son and the rest of the family. Everybody was nice. Found out we all came from Astoria in NYC, so we spent much of our time there chatting about the “old country.”
They are very nice people, and now, onto the yummies.
I really wanted to try the pizza as it smelled delicious and rather familiar. So I ordered a slice to devour before our meal. Let me tell you – this is only the second place in the area which I feel has pizza like the pizza in Queens, specifically the teeny first generation pizzeria at the bus depot on 74th street and Roosevelt Ave. in Jackson Heights, right in front of the Q-47 bus stop back in the 70’s-90’s. The other place Tony’s Pizzeria in Monticello closed so they could work on a real restaurant that hopefully will open in a month or so…fingers crossed!
The pizza way uber-yummy I tell you!! Definitely worth the trip.
We decided to keep it simple and I ordered Linguini with Meatballs (these were the juicy ones I was raving about earlier) and Pilar ordered the Penne with Sausage. Both with home made sauce. As you know, if you’ve read some of my earlier reviews, I normally do NOT order pasta from restaurants because none of them taste like homemade. Since I’d heard so much about Angelina’s On The Hill, I decided to put them through their paces and see just how good they really are. We ordered pasta. The plates were truly yummy. The pasta was perfectly al dente and those MEATBALLS WERE SO DARNED JUICY I could not believe it. I asked Mike how he makes them so juicy. He told me, but I’d rather not divulge his secret, though I will be using it here at home! The sausage is handmade right there in the restaurant and it was yummy. The meal came with nice soft Italian bread and fresh garden salads, and FINALLY someone has French dressing and I don’t have to settle for Russian.
For dessert we tried their fried dough with powdered sugar. If you like pizza dough, this is the dessert for you!
They have a spacious dining room, which is also available for events, and now they have a bar where folks can wind down before dinner after a long day
There you have it - Angelina’s On The Hill – nice people & good food; what more can one ask for!
