We stopped here for the famous 'Michigan', with fries on the side. As the previous reviews have stated many times over, the place is a relatively small shack that looks like it is falling down. The waitress will come out to your car to take your order, or you can eat inside at the counter with stools. The chili dog... More

If you're looking for ambience, this is definitely not the place. But if you re hankering for a really good red hot with chili and buried onions then this is the place for you.

Great local dive with curb side service and an excellent hot dog at a great price. This is local favorite that specializes in a hot dog called "Michigan", think coney island hot dog. This is a seasonal operation that will bring your order to your car and hang it on your window with a tray, just like the 50's style... More

Summer wouldn't be summer if not for MICHIGANS! Hot dogs in meat sauce really are the staples of the North Country. Add some poutine and you have a yummy meal. It's a great treat! Clare and Carl's has a history of making this a regional menu of choice!

Clare and Carl's has been around for years and never seems to change. There are many good places in Plattsburgh to get a good Michigan, but C&C gets my vote for the "top dog" spot! First, their product is consistently good! Although Michigan sauce is a personal preference issue, theirs is a pretty standard sauce that most everyone would enjoy.... More

Michigans are the special and sauce is a well guarded secret. Business is well run and the food and service is great. The building still looks like it is going to fall down; but has been that way for years and is part of the well run business. Business is seasonal and is soon scheduled to open

We have been eating at Clare and Carl's since I was a little girl. They have great michigans- hot dogs with a slightly hot meat sauce-and onion rings. In addition, the other menu items are really good as well. The building looks like it is collaping but that is the great charm of the place. They sell tee shirts as... More

I'm not from the north country so I'd never heard of a Michigan or redhot or whatever else they're called, but in Plattsburgh, I kept seeing signs for these hotdogs so what the heck, though we'd try one. Read the reviews on TA and decided this was the place to go to try our first Michigan. Ohhhh, they are good!... More

If you’re an aficionado of Michigans -- the local chili dog, Texas wiener, red hot, Coney Island wiener, etc., of the northeast corner of New York state -- you can do no better than to pay a visit to Clare and Carl’s stand, just south of downtown Plattsburgh on Route 9. Open only during the warm months, this tiny shack... More
