An excellent selection of fresh fish and seafood dishes. With our beautiful year round peaceful setting, and perfect location by the sea, it is no surprise that you will find seafood, fresh from the ocean made with quality care. KabelJoe's offers discerning seafood lovers a daily menu of light and delicious fare with a fresh, modern twist from our kitchens. KabelJoe's extensive open-style seating area is located on the outdoor terrace of the restaurant, providing an easy and relaxed environment for both weekdays and weekends. As is befitting of KabelJoe's, the terrace overlooks tranquil blue waters of the Kleinmond Harbour. Food was very good, hake was succulent and melt in your mouth, calamari was also good, chips were good
Drinks were EXPENSIVE: worked out to R180 for two lime milkshakes and two small cokes - prices for milkshakes weren't on the menu
Beautiful views of the sea, beautiful atmosphere, service is good, but it seems to be a staple restaurant and it gets BUSY so expect service to be slower and food to take longer to come.

This restaurant has always been one of our favorites for calamari when visiting Betty’s Bay over the past 25yrs, but regrettably the prices have skyrocketed and the food quality isn’t what it used to be. We decided to order 2 starters, calamari and mussels with a side of chips.
The calamari was okay but the mussels arrived in what looked like a thick, lumpy packet soup! The chips however were delicious!

local restaurant in Kleinmond. Seafood menu is good, service is friendly and waiting time is reasonable. This is not fine dining but if you want a good piece of fish and calamari and prawns it is perfectly adequate. Prices are midrange, not cheap, but also not overpriced.

Anna, what can I say. A wonderful woman who made feel right at home with her efficiency, kindness and humour. Sian’s beer battered hake was spot on and the mussels in tomato sauce were fab. Near closing time a party of 5 arrived and Anna welcomed them and kept the restaurant open for them to have dinner. Savannah dry was the coldest, and so the best, I’ve had. Sian’s Sauvignon blanc was the same. So, to summarise - good quality home cooked food, lovely location, great service. Make a point of eating here - great prices too

Visited kabeljoes on the recommendation of a friend - however despite the waitress showing us to a table, provided menus and closed one of the blinds, we were thereafter totally IGNORED. Orders of people who arrived after us were taken and they received their orders; thereafter other tables were served whilst we were totally IGNORED.
We then left and went to a restaurant in Gordons Bay rather than to spend our money at Kabeljoes. I will NEVER recommend this place to any one

The visit to Kabel Joe’s was quite dissatisfying .
We ordered the ‘heap’ of mussels with a curry sauce, which was more a curry soup with few mussels. 4day old stale bread served with said mussels was a big big disappointment.
Service was friendly but a bit of training will go far.
Would not recommend

We stopped at Kabeljoe‘s for a quick lunch but was a bit disappointed. I ordered salmon California rolls, but they were more the sized of other restaurant‘s maki so I had to order some nigiri as I was still hungry. The nigiri too were half the size of standard nigiri, and the price of these items were more expensive than most places. I asked the waiter why my food is so small, and pointed out a customer sitting close to us who’s rolls looked much bigger. She replied saying they make this customer bigger roles especially.
My dad‘s prawn curry was also disappointing as his prawns were rubbery from either overlooking or rehearing the curry. My husband‘s fish curry on the other hand was very tasty and the fish tasted fresh, so at least 1 out of the 3 meals were good.

Yesterday, with my family we decided to have lunch in Kleinmond at what (used to be) one of our favourite restaurants (until yesterday that is), it seems that service has changed since lock-down restrictions have been amended, not positively at this outlet for sure. Normally we would have been warmly welcomed and shown to a table, I expected an even warmer welcome considering new regulations with restaurants now able to seat patrons whilst practising social distancing. Well let me tell you .... this was definitely NOT the case, I stood with my family at the entrance for 20min, the sign blatantly says "wait here to be seated" this is what we did - not a single person asked if we could be seated and ignored us flat out, like we did not exist. Numerous personnel walked up and down past us for what seemed to be forever, without asking us if they could assist, I must tell you, for a family who so was looking forward to eating out at one of our favourite restaurants (which I drove to from Cape Town) this ended in utter disappointment. I felt completely humiliated whist standing there as we were stared at by customers eating their meals for this duration of time. So sad to be treated like this, one would expect restaurants now to make sure that customers were treated like gold as revenues could not have been very high over the last 3 months, and now more than ever when you have to make up for the shortfalls in revenue. Anyhow, you live and learn, I will NEVER go back to this restaurant again, nor will I recommend it to anyone, of this I am certain.

Nice spot, great service and pet friendly, but the seafood platter was very disappointing. A few pieces of deep fried Hake, a couple of mussels, a pile of chips, some tasteless rice and about 6 prawns. Really unexciting.

It's a pity to write this review really, because the food we had at KabelJoe's was enjoyable. However, a restaurant experience has to be about more than just what's on the plate.
Acknowledging that the restaurant was busy, we waited over an hour for our order to arrive. There was no explanation, no apology, in fact no communication at all even when we asked the waitress to check where our order was. This was all the more confusing because a table that arrived after we did had finished their meal even before ours arrived.
When it did come, the order was not fully correct. One person in our party was also only served his food 10 minutes after everyone else. Again, no explanation or apology was proferred. When we asked why there was such a delay, all the waitress said was that she had to wait for the prawns.
We would have raised all of this with a manager, but there didn't seem to be one. Nobody checked on us, nobody asked if we were satisfied with the meal (not even the wsitress) and nobody seemed to be checking on the standard of service.
In the end, a big disappointment.

We wanted to order the prawns and at R245 asked how many prawns. Answer 5 or R49 per prawn. Can we please see the prawns? The prawns were not King prawns but Queen prawns. Why? We do not have King prawns.
So to sum up a Queen prawn is half the size of a King prawn therefore it is a rip off.
If we had been offered extra Queen prawns to make up the weight difference that would have been ok.
As a consequence we left and went to another restaurant.
Management: Not on duty.
Will we return: NO

We visited on the Wednesday after the public holiday. Restaurant had no atmosphere. Outside area was closed but there was no wind up until around 8pm when we left. Several diners complained about this. One waitress for the whole restaurant and she did her best. The food took a long time, not sure if there was a staffing issue. Sent the calamari back as it was like warm. The second portion was much better. The pan fried hake was tasty and fresh but the chips were luke warm and not crispy. Compared to the lunch we had at Milk on the Beach on the same day …. it was disappointing and at these prices I expected more. Would have liked to have seen more local wines on the menu.

Meh
Had lunch on Easter Friday with a family of 10.
Asked if we could sample a small taste of the curry fish to decide an order. No. They do not do that.
Asked if they had onion rings. No they do not make those.
Ok fine we got the idea the extra mile is a tad far but delivery of a No also can be dressed up a little.
This restaurant is so average in every way that its a small step from falling in favor and sadly too big a leap to improve.
Here is hoping they prove me wrong and this was a one off glitch only seen from our perspective.
Now I wonder if my meal was indeed as meh as I thought or the general "No" mindset was affecting my taste-buds.
The waiter was not rude - just functional. Average.

We had a decidedly mixed experience.
The Good: The calamari was simply outstanding, fresh and tenderly cooked.
Good fresh hake, sadly overcooked on the batter.
The mussles in a creamy broth was excellent.
Milkshakes were brilliant.
The bad:
Burger well made and presented, the patty was frozen before, and tasteless. Two portions of chips were cold. Prawns bland as previously frozen. Roosterkoek with mussles had been precooked, and warmed up.
Good sincerely friendly service from manageress Anna.
Overall, I would revisit, but ask what is fresh and stick to the specials.

What a shame! Great venue, fish was fresh but we waited 40 minutes for a menu, then they brought the wrong food so one of the guests was only served only once the others had finished eating. Despite the ingredients being good, the outcome was barely edible. My suggestion: get a good manager and a good chef. The location deserves better, as do our tourists.
