We had a lovely relaxing day on the island. The tavern was the only food outlet available which wasn't a surprise with business scaling down with it being the end of October. Our order was taken and food served quickly. Had the home made pie which was lovely and 3 real ales available. I sampled 2 and both in good... More

Dear Gill M Thank you for your review of the Mermaid Tavern following your visit on Tuesday. The Mermaid Tavern reduces it's staff during the autumn/winter periods, as the level of visitors to the Island declines significantly. It was, therefore, a major surprise to see 400 people visit the Island on Tuesday, many of whom wanted lunch - numbers usually... More

There was clearly a staffing crisis at the Mermaid today, on a Tuesday in half term. The place was packed, the queues were enormous and customers were told that there was a wait of 30 and then 40 minutes for food. After an hour and 10 minutes, my fellow customers rejoined the queue to start asking for their money back... More

As it was end of season only the Tavern was open but this wasn't a problem as there was plenty of space. Extensive collection of beers was a good start and the bar staff were happy to offer an opinion. We were feeling peckish so the kilo of mussels (each) looked like a good idea given that mussels are mostly... More

I'm staying on Herm in a cabin for a few days break. I cook my own breakfast, snack for lunch and then eat in the pub in the evenings. I arrived in the Mermaid about half an hour before they started serving food, had a nice chat with the barman who was very happy to give me samples of the... More

Having paid a visit across to Herm a place we know very well we were very disappointed with our lunch time food from the Mermaid. My wife's meal was just about passable but mine was far from acceptable. having ordered the bugger with chips when it arrived it was stone cold. I called the waiter and before he believed me... Dear Michael S, Many thanks for your review of the Mermaid Tavern - I am sorry to hear that your experience was not up to their usual standard. It is disappointing to learn that your burger (I suspect slight typo in your review!) and your chips were cold, but am glad to hear that it was replaced. The burgers are... More

I can't speak more highly of the Mermaid than I did in my last review. What i can say is that standards remain as high as ever. The service is outstanding the food is affordable, plentiful and very tasty with loads of choice. There is always at least two well kept real ales to choose from and a selection of... More

Not terribly charismatic, but choice of indoor and outdoor seating and averagely priced food and drinks. The coffee tasted a little cheap and the chips were underdone for our taste, but friendly service and not much other choice. Very much aimed at the tourist.

Dear Stephen B Many thanks for your review of the Mermaid Tavern. I am sorry to hear that you find the Mermaid to lack charisma - despite having a charming interior and a suntrap of a courtyard. The coffee served is bean to cup, so is ground at the time of making the cup, which given the location of the... More

I don't write bad reviews but on this occasion I feel justified in doing so. My gf booked a surprise trip for me and a few friends to go to Herm for my stag do. This was during their cider and beer festival. When we go their was no table ready for us and when my gf in guernsey phoned... More

Dear Martin B, Many thanks for your review of the Mermaid Tavern. A booking was made for you during the ale and cider festival, which does not guarantee you a table to sit at, but a place on the boat, and also entry to the ale and cider festival. I understand from our manager that he received a call from... More
