This is a typical Country Pub for the locals. Sunday night they do pizzas to eat in or take away. The beer is cold and the hospitality is hot.

I stayed overnight in the town and my accommodation recommended this hotel for an evening meal. A typical Australian Pub atmosphere and a typical old pub dining room. I watched some meals come out and the meal sizes were huge. No going hungry here. I chose a scotch fillet steak which was cooked just right however there are many varied... More

After we returned from our steam train trip we sat in the beer garden and had a very relaxing afternoon. Unfortunately they couldn't fit us in for dinner but the lovely waitress organised a booking for us in another hotel.

The railway hotel is a wonderful pub. Last Friday I had a really great South African curry. Pleasant atmosphere and great selection of beers and Henry of Harcourt's cider on tap.

An interesting pub to call into for a couple of drinks after a train ride. The drinks went down well and the staff were very friendly. Loved the decor and all the memorabillia.

A group of 9 all left raving about our meals - the staff are friendly, the prices very reasonable and the quality of food was just superb. Try the Toad in the hole! Great afternoon - thanks Railway crew.

This is my go to place for totally awesome and not our regular meal. When I go out I want something I can't cook. I love the interesting combinations the chef and his team pull together. And love the friendly staff. Great beers on tap.

We had fortunately made a reservation here for a Tuesday night because it's their busiest night. They don't use their regular menu but instead have a specials menu with only 1 vegetarian option, a curry. As my wife doesn't eat curry we asked if they could make a vegetarian pasta, they offered fettuccine with pesto sauce which we accepted. We... More

Excellent parma, and perfectly cooked steak. Exemplary service. Reasonable prices and the largest serving anywhere. I ordered the parma the first time we went and could not finish it, it was so large. The second time we went we ordered the porterhouse and were not disappointed. I would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with friends on a really busy Monday night.(over one hour wait for food) Staff were friendly, food of high standard and enormous serves and good selection of drinks from the bar. Despite wait, would recommend a visit.

The Railway Hotel is located in the historic township of Castlemaine within the goldfields area in central Victoria. The Hotel dates back to the mid 1800's and is one of a few surviving hotels from the bustling gold boom era. The Hotel is located adjacent to the historic working railway station which services the Melbourne to Bendigo line as well at the Steam Trains from both Maldon and Melbourne. The Hotel has a real vintage feel of a bygone era incorporating a locals bar, bistro and bar and outside verandah area. The "Railway" is a welcoming and inviting place for locals and travellers with an award winning chef preparing food sourced locally and a range of local beers and ciders on tap. Our spirit wall hosts an inviting range of imported whiskey and bourbon choices and our wine range supports the vineyards of our region.
