We visited Vimala's as a part of the Taste Carolina food tour. The location is super cool, on one side of a beautiful little atrium which would have been so nice if it wasn't freezing outside! We were able to get a table immediately despite it being packed! The staff was awesome and they brought us samosas and fried okra... More

I love Indian food. I love this little place. It is a true gem. The staff is very helpful if you have never tried Indian food before. They will explain the spices, etc. to you to help you decide what is right for you. It is not the "Americanized" version of Indian food. It is the real deal. I had... More

Best Indian food in Chapel Hill. There are great options for food allergies - vegetarian/vegan/gf. They also have great dessert options and many delicious teas and drinks. The people that work at Vimalas are truly wonderful probably because the owner is so wonderful and is very involved in the community. They feed anyone in need and often donate food. Staff... More

Ok, we went with a very large group (30+), so this could have effected the service& food, but when looking at the reviews before hand I was dissapointed with the restaurant. Indian tasting food, but not very flavoured or spicy or special. Agree the seating outside is nice, but not enough chairs for the table's and no napkins or such.

Vimala's feeds everyone. No kidding. No one is turned away. And not only does this community love make you want to eat her to support Vimala, but the food brings you back. The menu has something for everyone and the portions are for the most part generous. Curries are the best.

Vimala's is a casual indian restaurant that delivers some of the best indian food I have had in the U.S. It is in a great location off of franklin street with a nice courtyard for outdoor seating. The menu is refined and they also offer a decent beer and wine selection. The lamb roganjosh and bhel salad are my favorites... More

Since my kids love this place we had lunch there last summer. The food was very good, but you order at a clubter and they bring it out to you. Seating is fairly limited and super casual....I personally prefer a little better atmosphere.

Let me start by saying that I am the pickiest eater in the entire world. Literally. I eat off the kids menu whenever possible, and can't stand people trying to "broaden my horizons." Spicy food doesn't sit well with me either, so Indian has never been my thing. We went to Vimala's for a church get together, and I was... More

I have been wanting to try Vimala's for ages -- I've heard wondeful things both about the food as well as Vimala's community service focus. And the seating in the courtyard is a lovely oasis in the middle of Chapel Hill. So I was pre-disposed to like Vimala's through our blind taste-test comparing Tandoor, Mint, Guru and Vimala's. We ordered... More

Casual place where you order at a counter and food is delivered to your table by number. They have local beer on tap and wine. Great variety of flavors, and the thali platters are a little voyage in and of themselves. Thy also have a mission and will feed anyone who is hungry and can't pay. Good value for doing... More
