Counter Culture Coffee is the greatest place to learn about coffee. The real address is 812 Mallard Avenue though. The new roastery smells great and there is a Cupping event every Friday at 10 am. You get to taste different coffees and learn about their origins. Classes are offered to study various aspects of coffee and it's proper brewing I... More

They hosted a grand opening that was so warm and welcoming, everyone was eager to meet the new kids on the block. They have such phenomenal variety in their roasts and the folks there beam with pride and passion for what they do. As I understand it, this new location at 812 Mallard Ave in Durham will be the training... More

Counter culture is a can't miss coffee roaster. Absolutely my favorite roaster in the US. Additionally, they are very conscious about who and where they buy their beans.

Went to the campus in Durham and enjoyed a "coffee-cupping". The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. We got to smell and "slurp" 3 different coffees and got a tour of the roasting facility. If you're in the least bit interested in how coffee is sourced and roasted the Friday morning coffee-cupping is well worth your time. These folks really... More

Outstanding selection of fine coffee available at a few retail, restaurant and coffee shops. Mail order is excellent. Coffee arrives within 48 hours of roasting at your door. Can't get much better than that!

I discovered Counter Culture while in Durham for grad school and have been in love ever since. Ignoring the fact that they basically created the sustainable coffee business model, their coffee and subscription packages are hard to beat. Trust me I've tried. I enjoy their monthly single-source subscription service that provides two 12 oz bags of coffee that change month-to-month.... More

My counter culture coffee subscription is one of my best monthly investments! I appreciate that they use fair trade coffee beans and don't over roast their beans. Every cup is a little slice of coffee heaven.
