Two cruises in Pointe-du-Chene, NB are identified by TripAdvisor: Shediac Bay Cruises [Lobster Tales] and Croisieres Shediac Bay Cruises. Perhaps the second one is a lobster educational cruise. In June 2022, our 36-member Grand Circle Travel group boarded, not knowing what to expect. I enjoyed...[and made a mess of☺] a lobster lunch, but feasted on the education of lobster harvesting, trap construction to allow undersized crustaceans to escape, and how the traps are designed with doors that disintegrate after a few days, if the mooring lines become detached. I found most interesting the camaraderie of lobster harvesters, similar to “barn raising” events of my youth in rural North Carolina—neighbors helping neighbors.
Those who prefer 9-to-5 office hours need not consider this employment venue. Seasonal hours are grueling. In off season, there is trap repairs and boat maintenance. The education of lobster harvesting—and how to extract lunch from the exoskeleton—is presented with humor. I added a “groaner” after lunch. I said, Eating lobster intestines doesn’t bother me, it’s what hasn’t left the guts that causes concern☺More
