We went to dinner here for one reason - to get good seafood and they delivered. The Crab Imperial was exceptional. The lump crab meat was tender and plentiful. Could not eat it all. Our waitress was wonderful. She was very familiar with the menu and attentive. We never had to ask for refills. Long wait to get a table... More

We had to wait a little to get a table with friends because this place does not take reservations. It was definitely worth the 15 minute wait (they said 45 minutes, but it did not take near that long). The lump crab was wonderful, the crab cake had no filler (perhaps a little egg to hold it together) and the... More

We have been going to this family owned restaurant for many years and it is on the top of our list in every category. The wait staff always greets you with a smile and goes the extra mile to make your visit enjoyable. Regardless of where you sit you have a view of the water. The menu is very extensive... More

I always try to visit this restaurant when I go to the Outer Banks. It is family owned and has been in business since 1980. Through the years, I have never had a bad meal. It is located on the Roanoke Sound and most tables have great views. Food portions (even lighter fares) are generous. If you decide to get... More

I was with a family group of twelve. There was only one duplicate order in the group that I know of, and every single dish was perfection! Wonderful seafood, prepared exactly right, and sides that were tasty as well. How often do you get undercooked green beans in even the best restaurants? The Tale of the Whale has it down... More

The first time I came to this restaurant, it was one of the few restaurants on The Outer Banks (OBX) where you could get a decent meal. That was 1978. Things have changed. Now there are restaurants all over the place. The view here is still spectacular. The prices are a tad high and drinks are expensive but this is,... More

I really try to find something to pick on with a restaurant, but with this one, I have nothing. Friendly greeting, prompt seating when the opened at 5PM, great water view, comfortable booth, waiter was both prompt and friendly. Then there is the food, which was outstanding. I had wedge salad (which was half the garden) and broiled scallops that... More

I had the best meal of my vacation at Tale of the Whale. I had one of the specials which was Mahi Oscar. The mahi was grilled to perfection and topped with crabmeat, asparagus and hollandaise sauce. My sides were garlic mashed potatoes and fresh green beans. The portions were more than I could eat. Everything tasted great.
