Well, I'm a vegetarian...and this place is a BBQ joint. That being said, their hush puppies are totally worth the visit. They are incredible. My companions all loved the BBQ.

While Allen and Son is known for their excellent Carolina barbecue, they also offer a terrific cheeseburger! My friend and I visit there often for lunch and either choice is delicious! Hamburgers are juicy and the double cheeseburger is to die for! Brunswick stew is also a great choice. Rustic decor. Friendly, fast service. Great place for lunch!

The good news: Allen's only a couple miles away so I can go whenever I have an urge for NC BBQ. I recommend the platter which includes BBQ, slaw & hushpuppies. Delicious! For non-North Carolinians we're talking pork, vinegar based BBQ which is predominant in the eastern part of the state versus tomato based found in the western part of... More

Vinegar based BBQ is not my favorite, but when I'm in the mood for it Allen and Son's hits the spot. Great food, fast service and low prices.

We eat there when our colesteral levels can take a hit. It just simple great southern BBQ. The fried pickles alone are worth the trip. Finally the SWEET tea should be shown in the dictionary as the definition of that nectar. Unfortunately, the service is hit or miss. We expect we will be not garner a lot of attention from... More

First, this is Eastern Carolina BBQ, i.e. pulled smoked pork in a vinegar-and-pepper sauce. If you are looking for meat dripping with sweet red sauce, this is not your place. Allen and Son BBQ is among the best around as the vehicles overflowing from the parking lot onto Rt. 15-501 attest. Seating is available inside and there is a take-out... More

This is the best Lexington-style NC BBQ I've had. So moist and full of flavor. You won't be disappointed.

This place is great. BBQ is great! This is far from a fancy place so if you want fancy keep driving. Very simple. Sweet tea was great. If you are in the area stop in and you will not be disappointed!

We tried fish sandwiches once and enjoyed them but the second time the fish was overdone. The hamburgers were big but not so great really. The shredded pork sandwiches are our favorite my husband is always willing to go out and pick up the barbecue here. He enjoys the great fresh barbecue and the quantity too!

Great food. 1 plate was enough for for 2 people. Love the fried corn cob. People are friendly. Will definitely eat from here again.
