They had a good ribeye with potato and salad for a decent price ($24). Beer prices were good but $8 for a Jack Daniels seemed steep for the area. Atmosphere was good, historic bar feel.

We've been here a few times now and the food has always been excellent. The first time we both had one of their delicious hamburgers. They were awesome. This last time I had the What You Like with Noodles. A friend that was with us had it with Rice. Both were good but I liked mine best. My wife had... More

What it is, is a great bar. I don't understand some of the negative reviews. This establishment has great ambiance and atmosphere. Great service, Gabby is a sweetheart. Tremendous selection of liquor especially scotch and beers. The burger and especially the onion rings are off the charts. I recommend this long time Raleigh watering hole highly.

There were six of us. We ordered starters with jalapeno poppers, chicken fingers, and ribs. The poppers were good (hot), the rest were mediocre at best. The burgers were great, cooked to order, but buns were mushy. Just had to ignore and enjoy the well prepared burgers. The fish 'n' chips was fair but doughy. The grilled cheese was burned toast... Just a great place to go for a drink and a hamburger. The hamburgers are handmade and fresh. The service is outstanding. There are a couple of pool tables there. Just a relaxing place to go. Nothing fancy just good food and drinks.

A dive bar hang out near NC State. Told it was a great place to get a burger and beer. Would not trust level of sanitation and food prep to eat anything here. Stank of old stale beer. Not my cup of tea.

Great place with a good sports atmosphere. We walked over from the Hilton Doubletree. The homemade chips were excellent. I had a burger and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the ribs and he loved them. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely come back!

On occasion, it is my choice to meet business and social friends at the Players Retreat for either brunch, lunch, dinner or just for drinks. It is located at the edge of the North Carolina State University campus but the patrons range from students to people who went to school there and elsewhere 50 years ago. The menu options vary...
