Trip to ECU football game so of course if you stay anywhere close you must visit the Sunny Side Oyster Bar! Had oysters, shrimp and scallops and of course a red rooster. Make sure you try the special hot sauce. Geezer and Tim took perfect care of us. Try as I might to steam the perfect oyster at home I... More

About an hour east of Raleigh a short distance from the highway is Sunny Side Oyster Bar, a historic restaurant and now one of my favorite spots to enjoy hand-shucked fresh oysters. I've now made the trip from Raleigh twice, and the Sunny Side Oyster Bar will likely become a yearly tradition. I don't recommend the restaurant for anything other... More

Heard so much about this place and could not pass it up on the way from Chesapeake. The food is bare knuckle made with lots of local experience and love. the staff are absolutely awesome. The food is outstanding and this is probably the last original oyster bar in NC and you must visit.

Sunnyside Oyster Bar is a little like stepping back in time, with a large eating room that has an ample amount of counter space dedicated to shucking oysters and providing food to patrons. There is also a large bar area adjacent to the shucking room, where reasonably priced beers are available along with friendly service. When a lot of people... More

We hadn't been here for a good fifteen years. But that hasn't stopped us from thinking about our good experience here. So on a trip back from the coast, we had a chance to stop in. We had tried a repeat trip here some years ago, but it was closed. Warning, they are only open in the "r" months, partly... More

We ate 1 1/2 pecks of steamed oysters and 1 order of scallops ! Served with crackers, warm butter, delicious cocktail sauce, and horseradish. Our server, Griff, was friendly and very good at shucking ! The horseshoe shaped shucking bar made for a friendly setting. Go early because this place is a foodie destination !

Hate to be the one who will say it but this was a terrible experience. Based on the reviews, even though I don't like oysters, I thought it would fine to have shrimp. Floyd, our schucker, was rude and demeaning. It was our first trip there and needed a little instruction on how and what to order. Floyd didn't seem... More

This will be a very short review because I won't need many words. The Sunny Side Oyster Bar is the absolute real deal. It gets no better than this. Floyd shucked our oysters and we ate them. The shrimp were hot and wonderfully spiced. Sunny Side Oyster is unlike most other places I've ever been: Authentic and not to be... More

Good oysters. Great staff. First time here and had a great experience. Small seatings makes for good conversation with friends and those seated near by. The seating is at a horseshoe shaped bar so very easy to strike up a conversation with other diners.

A completely fun place...the menu is limited (thankfully), the oysters are to die for. The place is fun and the employees obviously enjoy working there (one guy has been there for 41 years and several others for over 20. We were a bit confused regarding the procedure for sitting, ordering, etc., but then we are Yankees but were not afraid... More
