Wonderful bakery, don't miss out on these fresh eats. Try the Sugar Cake- you won't regret it. It also helps the Old Salem Museum and community! win-win.

Winkler's Bakery is an Old Salem tradition and the best place to buy sugar cake and Moravian cookies. Very small but historically interesting with volunteers explaining the bakery's origins.

We got the Moravian Sugar Cake fresh out of the oven. Absolutely out of this world yummy...but recommend getting it when it hasn't been out of the oven too long. We had left overs and the cake got a little stale. It's very sugary, but really very good. We also got Moravian cookies, and they were really tasty as well.... More

You can see the workers in old world costumes preparing fresh bread right out of the wood fired ovens. They crusty bread with thyme was yummy and we enjoyed the thin ginger cookies and Moravian sugar cookies. Find these goodies and more packed up in tins and assorted packaging to bring home as presents for friends and loved ones. Really... More

Step into history at Old Salem and partake of some of the delicious treats from the Winkler Bakery. Educational and interesting as this peek into the past is, it is more fun to taste the traditional treats that come out of its ovens. Be sure to buy some to sample and to have on hand at home. The traditional Moravian... More

We live out-of-state so had only one chance to visit. We were there on a weekday afternoon and there was no wait. Since there was only the two of us we made only one purchase so it is difficult to judge overall quality of the baked goods. If I went back to Winston-Salem I would return to make another purchase... If you are visiting Old Salem, NC, you cannot consider your trip there complete if you have not visited Winkler Bakery. The atmosphere with the old wood fired, open hearth over, the stash of freshly baked goodies and the friendly staff make it a must stop. I bought the Moravian Sugar Cake - oh boy, was it delicious. They are... More

You cannot go wrong with a visit to the Winkler Bakery. We walked in just as the bakers were removing bread from the historic oven. You will love the bread, cakes, and cookies

Love the moravian sugar cake and all the other homemade cookies and cakes. It's nice when you can purchase the Moravian sugar cake hot.
