The mix of flavors in the food were incredible. The fresh vegetables and fruits make the dishes unique and tasty. Everything had wonderful spices which complimented each other perfectly. The medium rare duck was very tender and the reduction sauce was very flavorful. The cheese...cake dessert with the fresh blueberries was spot on with both cow and goat cheeses. Oh I forgot to mention! The servers were extremely professional, attentive and knowledgeable about the meal. Jules you were awesome! The breathtaking view from the restaurant of the pristine Lake Kootenay and the tree filled mountains. This is a five star restaurant in my opinion and I eat out often. The chef should be submitted and awarded the Michelin award It was a wonderful experience which I will never forget. I hope to come back again! Thanks again!More
Restaurant food portion very very small for the price, with a large plate looks even smaller. Although linguini had exceptional good taste, do not go if very hungry, it will cost you a lot.
Reasonably enjoyable experience and meal here. Very much trying to be considered a high-end restaurant with prices to match. We attempted to make a reservation when we arrived but when the front desk phoned up to the staff, we were informed that the earliest available...time was 7:30. This is later than our usual preference for dinner timing so we passed. Even though we were told the options in the area during our time there were limited. So we hit the hot springs and enjoyed our afternoon. As 5:30pm rolled around we knew we were getting hungry. Thinking that maybe the restaurant would have a bar with possibly a happy hour or room to dine in the bar we headed up to the fourth floor. Upon arrival we found no bar but the hostess gladly ushered us to a table by the window with a view of the lake and the hot spring area. Very pretty. The menu was not vast, keeping with some local vendors and products to create a nice meat, fish, and vegetable selection. Kudos for noting dishes that were or could be made as vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. The front desk staff member we worked with upon check-in highly praised the appetizer available now made with locally foraged mushrooms and served on toast. So we certainly were ready to try this dish when we arrived but I'm not sure we were ready for it once it was served. The menu describes it as Mushrooms, spruce tips, and parmesan cream with pesto served on locally baked sourdough toast. Sounded distinctly unique. When placed on the table, it looked like a small bit of mushrooms masking any bread, some green sauce-spruce tips? pesto?-on top and sitting next o a sprig greens and a mound a white foam. This turned out to be the "parmesan cream" (really an emulsion IMO) and was truly flavorless. Topped with a small shaving of fresh parm and black pepper and sitting in an pool of herb pesto. The mushrooms themselves, when you could grab a bit not covered with other flavors, were truly delicious. Unctuous and fresh. The dish appeared to have been plated a good bit ahead as the "toast" was just a flavorless mushy piece of bread. Having this be fresh and crisply toasted, and a bit larger, would have done much more justice to the bread I'm sure. And complimented the other ingredients better. The overwhelming flavor profile when eaten together was of pesto. Very strong over all other ingredients. We think a different preparation for those mushrooms would suit them better. My entrée choice for the evening was the server recommended special-7oz portion of BC Halibut served over roasted potatoes, asparagus and crispy prosciutto, overlaid on a pool of pesto. All topped by roasted cherry tomatoes. Fish was excellent, exceedingly fresh, if cooked a little rare in the center to my taste. The asparagus was clearly very fresh (local?) and the potatoes cooked perfectly and wonderfully seasoned. But, here again, if you included the herb pesto in your bite of the dish, it really overpowered everything else. The wife's 10oz strip loin steak was served over mashed potatoes with roasted beets, asparagus and carrots. Complimented by a nice sage reduction. It was cooked a bit rarer than requested but was delicious. It was a bit on the peppery side for her taste but didn't keep the whole thing from disappearing. The potatoes and vegetables were truly cooked perfectly. Our service was nicely attentive and personable up until the end portion of the meal when it became a bit too much of a wait on dessert choices, bill presentation, and bill payment. possibly because the server was spread over an increasing number of tables. While we experienced some missteps, I'm almost certain it's the best meal available in the area. Recommended.More
A casual restaurant attached to the hot springs and the associated hotel - but the food is way above what you would normally expect at this kind of restaurant in terms of overall quality and presentation. Fresh ingredients are showcased in every dish, and pulled...together with tasty sauces and dressings. A highlight was the mushrooms on toast appetizer served with a cheesy whipped cream (delicious!) and garnished with arugula and spruce buds (we were sampling all the conifers we passed on our hike the following day!). Two of us had entrees featuring steelhead trout - lovely crunchy skin and excellent flavour. The pasta special was a hearty beef ragout. Homemade veggie burger was excellent. Nice selection of local beer and wine at reasonable prices. It’s a family-friendly place with very nice servers. Views of the lake. Dress casual or dress up. Almost forgot - the bannock is great, too.More
The restaurant is located on the top floor of the building. It has a good view of the lake. But that's all the good things that can be said. We had dinner and breakfast there in early May. And all the food tasted like it...came out of the freezer where it had been stored since the fall. The mussels were the tiniest I have ever seen. And they certainly were not from Saltspring Island as advertised. I know because we have lived there. Bannock was undercooked and stayed in our stomachs the whole next day. Fish & Chips were flat (the fish), about 1/2 inch high and old. Breakfast was no better. The toast was stale and the eggs had a dark bottom, probably from a griddle that hadn't been cleaned. Service was both bad and good. Our first server disappeared halfway through dinner and was relieved by two(!) others. Service at breakfast was pleasant and constant. Suggestion: Eat there in the summer and/or fall when supplies are fresh.More
Though the menu isn’t extensive there was lots of variety and everything was prepared using classic cooking techniques. I had what I thought was going to be a simple Grilled Chicken and Quinoa Salad with baby Kale.... but it was so much more. So many...pops of flavour, the presentation was outstanding. My salad included chopped nuts and seeds, dried fruit, goat cheese, a very good quality olive oil dressing and a perfectly seasoned chicken breast. No complaints. And dessert.... Cinnamon Creme Brûlée to die for. Truly outstanding.More
We were Hungry following a late afternoon swim. Decided to try the hotel restaurant. Staying across the road from the pool, we decided to take the food back to the condo. We ordered Bannock with a bowl of soup, calamari and an order of fish...and chips. The Soup was beef vegetable and was average tasting but overpriced at $10. The Bannock was average as well but overpriced at $12. The calamari was undercooked and greasy and portion too small for the price. As for the fish and chips. The chips were mixed with previously cooked ones and the fish was dripping with oil. $60 for this meal. The place represents itself as a higher class establishment so we expected that in turn for the food quality. Sadly we were mistaken.More
The food was good and the view was nice. There were limited choices for food on the menu which is to be expected for a smaller restaurant. Definitively should book a reservation if you want a window table. It didn't seem that busy when we...were there, but with social distancing, they only have so many window tables in use. The service was good and we got our food in good time.More
The mussels were good. Our server was new and quite lovely and did her absolute finest at answering our questions and working with our concerns. Due to food intolerances we had a lot of questions and she was thorough and checked with the kitchen for...all of them. Unfortunately we were then served wings full of gluten. It would have been a twenty minute wait for gluten free wings so we were unable to eat together. The large disappointment was that the new server had a complicated issue and management did not step in to help her out or offer something for the mistake which as humans we all make. I worked in the food industry for 15 years and it would have been simple for the manager to come over, apologize and offer us a glass of wine while waiting for the wings. When we spoke with management the response was yea we should probably change the menu as we’ve had this issue before. A huge disappointment for what was meant to be a lovely evening out.More
We enjoyed our dinner here. We had the mussels as an appetizer they were amazing! Very generous portion cooked to perfection, served with bannock. The mains were the steak which was cooked to perfectly. The side veggies were very good. The pork chop was cooked...beautifully and was so delicious. Portions were very generous. Our server was very good and super friendly making sure all was good.More
We finished our trip by staying at the resort and had a delicious dinner at the Grill. The fish was cooked perfectly, which I know is not the norm in many restaurants, so I was very impressed. The dessert was absolutely delicious. I love that...they use locally sourced products and you could taste the freshness. The staff were wonderful and attentive and just made the evening perfect.More
We were lucky enough to get the last room at the resort, and one of the last reservation bookings for this fancy little rooftop restaurant overlooking the lake and the pools. It was for a special occasion, so we were aware it would be a...bit pricey given its the only spot around that's open right now, so we were delightfully surprised at how scrumptious everything tasted! We had trouble narrowing down what to order because it all sounded so tasty! (still regret not trying the bannock!) We had calamari for an appetizer and it was cooked to perfection, I had the pasta special and it was delicious-the shrimp were delectible, and my spouse had fish and chips and it was very good. The server was very friendly and prompt.More
Amazing food and service. There was not alot of options on the menu. Only two chicken meals. Was quite expensive.
Alyssa was attentive and provided excellent service. Great menu. Relaxing environment. A must visit.
