The borscht is very good but $15 for a bowl of soup and slice of bread is nuts. We also ordered two perogies which they call something else. They came 10 minutes after our soup and cost another $13.

They have an interesting menu...and, no doubt, it's great Russian/Ukranian food. We especially liked the borscht, which is vegetarian with beets and a lovely dill taste. The vereniki is basically white flour...with potato and cheese. It was very nice. But $23 for two veriniki's and...a small soup was a bit much! It's a comfortable space and the service was friendly and quick.More

Coming from one who has had many a homemade meal like this over the years, I thought the borscht and the perogies I had (one with potato filling, another with cottage cheese) were the best!! The sourdough was great too. Look forward to going back...and trying more selections!! Busy little place, good service.More

Very pleasant visit in the heart of Grand Forks. Yes, some people complain about the prices, but if all you have ever had is free Veren Iki at your Babas then I can see your point. The Quality of the food and the excellent service...makes this a very good deal.More

Most people will probably have heard of borscht – an eastern European soup. But we’d certainly never heard of most of the other ‘speciality’ dishes on the menu. We decided to try one of each & share. Loved them all, but the beef & potato...one in steamed pastry was superb. Next time we’ll order a flock of them. Great space in which to eat – feels a bit like a converted bank, good service staff who were knowledgeable about the menu. All in all an excellent lunchtime stop.More

Returned to Grand Forks for the first time in 40 years. Missed the Doukhobor food. Great borscht, varenaki and pyrahi at a decent price. Co-owner Lil was friendly and reminisced with me about the old days, even though this was the first time we'd met....Highly recommend it.More

We stopped here on our road trip for lunch because we had seen it on this site and my husband really wanted borscht!!! At first we thought it might not be quick enough for us but the service was prompt and we both enjoyed a...delicious bowl of homemade soup - he the borscht and me the chicken and vegetable, filled with big chunks of chicken and freshly chopped veggies. Each came with a thick slice of buttered bread. In an out in about 45 minutes, and back on the road! Oh yes, and they had nice clean washrooms!More

We went to Grand Forks for some groceries and we dropped into the Bowl for lunch. A friendly greeting and we sat Immediately at our table. Great service from the owners daughter. Lots to choose from but we all had to have the borscht soup...with sour dough bread. It was a cabbage based soup and it was delicious. I also had the Pyrahi stuffed with beets with a tossed salad and our friend had 1 Pyrahi stuffed with sauerkraut and 1 Voreniki, both dishes also came with sour cream. Absolutely delicious. We all left very satisfied!More

Mediocre atmosphere but pies are ethereal!! Borscht and superb local sourdough bread were great too...but the key lime pie with huckleberry or apricot or raspberry reduction ( whatever is in season) is sublime , and a good size! Also I loved the coconut cream pie...too ...warning - it is addicting!More

I visited recently with a few friends. I ordered borscht and it came right away. My boyfriend ordered borscht as well, along with three other smaller items, and he only received the borscht. Another friend ordered the special which was borscht with a pastry, and...he received the pastry and no borscht. We waited a long time thinking some things were still being prepared but they never came and when we eventually asked about them, the server was completely clueless and was surprised we’d ordered them at all. It was frustrating and we canceled the rest of the items. We’d also asked for water, which never showed up. We were the only people in the restaurant for most of our visit so the poor service was really unjustifiable. The borscht was good though.More

Dirung our driving tour to visit our friends in Trail/Fruitvale and also to camp cum pick wild Huckleberry, we searched out for the Borscht Bowl for lunch, We were told that it serves good borscht and Russian cuisine. We were not disappointed as the Food...and service were excellent and price affordable. We naturally ordered the borscht and the pie like bake with my favourite the sauerkraut ( forgot the actual name) , a house made roast beef sandwich and a lovely blue berry desert with ice cream - . The bill came to less than C$40 , which is good value - now a must stop for us when we are passing thru Grand Forks again.More
