Tasty food... but took longer than we were told to expect

Ordered takeout food for five people on a Saturday night. When we got there the restaurant was very busy and the customers seemed quite satisfied. Our food was fine when we got it home; everyone was happy. Only downside was a delay in the pickup: we were told 60 minutes, but it was more like 75. Another customer who came in after us was also waiting with us and he complained that they were running about 15 minutes later than they told him his would be ready. Understand they were busy, still they should have worked that into their time estimate.

First-rate sushi

As a lover of sushi it's just such a joy to find a restaurant like Sushi Wara where everything comes together: food, service and atmosphere. The large staff on hand makes delivery of your food incredibly fast, yet the speed doesn't mean any compromise in the quality of the food. The prices are reasonable during these times of spiraling inflation and—oh, the sushi! The ingredients were clearly fresh, the artistic presentation amazing, the taste delectable. Highly recommended. I've noticed that restaurants since Covid have suffered an overall decline in food quality in some cases but not so with Sushi Wara. As I told one of the staff: You guys rock!

Amazing Food

We came here for dinner while staying at the hotel attached to this restaurant. The service was great. Our waitress was attentive and very sweet. The food came out quickly and tasted great! I had the beef bulgogi, the dynamite roll and chicken kaarage and I was so happy with all of it. They must use quality ingredients as the beef was so tender I could easily break it apart with my chopsticks. We will definitely be back again!

Waaaayyy over priced!

I just picked up some take out sushi from this place, as Kobo Sushi is closed today. The child-sized portions wouldn't feed a cat. The gomae at $4.50 was the size of a tablespoon, and no more. And I'm not exaggerating. The negatoro cone at $6.50 could fit through a key hole. $6.50!! Can you believe it? And the hamachi sashimi at $20 came with five thin slices only. Total bill was a whopping $33.55 for take out, before tip. I am gobsmacked. These prices are absolutely highway robbery, especially with the tiny portions. Will never ever go back and I suggest others try Kobo sushi in Comox, or Ichiban in Courtenay. Way more reasonable with decent portions sizes and great food. Still shaking my head!

Disappointed

We ordered dinner here, arrived at the indicated time but the food likely had been ready for awhile as it was cold when we started eating. The sushi being made looked amazing, however we’d ordered teriyaki and it was not amazing. Hubs said the beef was quite chewy, and the seafood was over cooked and quite rubbery with the exception of one or two pieces. I’d start clear of the meat dishes and give the sushi a try if I ever return.

M'Eh and Expensive

Tried Sushiwara again. Take out this time. Bento boxes were tasty and enjoyed, but: 1. Shrimp tempura in dynamite roll was cold, tough, and clearly cooked much earlier and refrigerated for hours. 2. I ordered maki but received a single nigiri instead. 3. Take-out was packed in non-recyclable foam packaging. Very 1978 of Sushi Wara. 4. As so many have noted already, prices are high. No shortage of Japanese restaurants. Sushi Wara better up its game.

Used to be great!

Sushi Wara was always a valued stop in Comox before the pandemic hit. Just last week I stopped in again and was so thrilled to find them open and serving dinner. The service here has always been stellar - not last time. We had to ask over and over again for just the basics. The food was utterly substandard to what it has always been. I had to wonder if the restaurant was under new management, the food was so poor. This is a real shame. Sushi Wara was one of my favourite places to get Japanese food. Having spent four years in Japan, I really value good Japanese food in Canada. Sushi Wara is no longer one of those places, I'm very sorry to say.

Price Increases May Keep Us Away

For the past couple of years this has been our goto sushi restaurant. Excellent food quality and excellent service. We normally go at least once a week for lunch. However, when we went there a couple of days ago, the prices on our usual orders (Lunch Bento Boxes) has gone up so significantly that it may well keep us from coming back on a regular basis. We do appreciate that costs of everything have gone up and we have watched and lived with the price increases up until now understanding that a business has to make a profit, however, this last increase may have moved this very nice restaurant out of our price range.

This is THE BEST Sushi and staff!

This was our first experience here. Truly amazing customer service(hands down) and what amazing sushi! So much flavour in every bite and high quality, we were Totally impressed, 10/10. Their spicy is a little bit spicer than a lot of other sushi places we have been to, but still delicious, (but not enough to make you sweat, haha!) You will not be disappointed in this place! Thank you.

Japanese restaurant Worth the Visit

Nice ambience in this restaurant with ample seating. They are welcoming and the service is great! Our dishes of Teriyaki Chicken, vegetable tempura and sushi combo was very well done…especially the tempura which had a light, tasty batter. The food came quickly and was very fresh. Would recommend.

So so good! We all loved the food (and I think we tried at least 10 dishes between all of us). Despite being so busy with customers we found the service great. Our orders, drinks, and food came quickly. We will all be back!

It was okay with no problems

The food was okay and it was ready on time for pick up. Nothing really stood out. I was satisfied and it was close to where I was staying so I would order from them again under the same circumstances

Good sushi! Sashimi was my favorite, thick cut and fresh. I wish the party platter had sashimi but it was all rolls but still good.

Nailed Dining In Social Distancing
