I had heard about the Norseman from a number of friends so, after a stimulating afternoon at L'Anse aux Meadows Viking settlement site, thought this would wrap the day nicely. It is fine dining but in an unpretentious way. Service Newfoundland friendly. Had a delicious...fish soup followed by probably one of the best pieces of fish (cod) I have ever tasted and on a bed of parsnips/celery root which would not have been my first choice of veg but was delicious.(Lobster on the menu too at not an unreasonable price). And by this point in the trip had discovered India beer which balance the meal nicely. Beautiful harbour views. Expensive but not extensively so for the quality of the food. Highly recommended.More

An OK experience, the location is fantastic and service good but I didn’t find the food exceptional when you consider the prices and quantity of food provided. As I said the location was exceptional and the sunset was fantastic.

The RV Park I’m staying at recommended the Norseman and Catch of the Day restaurants. I had eaten at Catch of the Day already so drove the 3 miles to the Norseman. I was totally surprised to discover a”Fine Dining” restaurant. I tried a local...lager to drink and chose the whole Lobster from the menu. I had been wanting Lobster for months as I planned this trip……. The atmosphere was calm as it was early dinner time. I chose a table by the window to view the harbor and when asked, I chose to allow the kitchen to crack the lobster and remove all the meat for me, for a very small charge. The lobster was presented beautifully and the accompanying side was very tasty. I loved the lobster and then had to top it all off with dessert. One of the best meals in months!More

The food here is incredible! I had the soup of the day and my friend had the chowder - and we both bought extra food to take with us. We also bought many souvenirs from the attached souvenir shop.

I was dreaming about eating at the Norseman today. I started cheering myself up scrolling through photos, but of course not good enough. If you are making the journey to meditate on the wild beauty of north west Newfoundland and the haunting viking story you...must eat here. We ate dinner twice and surely it is one of the greatest restaurants you could ever wish for. Fresh fresh fresh from the local sea and land. Cold water lobster is at another level. Moose tasty dumplings superb fish and chowder, local little shrimps...figgy duff twice oh man. I am thinking of the wonderous berry cocktails with slowly fizzing iceberg ice releasing oxygen 20000 years old while the sunset from the bay glittered through the glass. Lovely people running the whole show in smooth charming wizard wonder. I look at the fine little dancing whale bone sculpture we got at the gallery to inspire meevery day. Go there people go there and count your blessings.More

This is my 2nd visit after a 13-year gap. I raved over my meal there so for this last visit was with my mother. Delicious. Again. I was off lamb, and you brought me back to loving it. It is no easy undertaking to create...such amazing fine dining in a location where getting fresh produce can be a challenge, but they have done it. The martinis were clever and delicious. And the forever in my mind dessert, Figgy Duff. The service, the timing, all well done. You are up there in my top ten!More

This restaurant is situated on a point of land looking out to the sea in several directions. It is obviously a destination type as you would never think such a great restaurant would be located in such a small village. The food was wonderful as...was the service. We had their fish chowder, cod taco, and spaghetti for our son. All were delicious. I would suggest you reserve for dinner and request a window table (it comes with binoculars to look for whales, boats, etc.)More

Awesome meal, service and ambiance - full stop. All the ingredients were very fresh and the food was cooked perfectly and as requested (one member of our group had beef). The staff worked very well together and we had an excellent experience from start to...finish. Highly recommended if you're visiting the northern portion of the Northern Peninsula.More

This little gem is unpretentious inside and out. Lobster was good as was the salad. Server was friendly and helpful. Although it was busy we did not feel rushed. Try to get a front seat near the window. Check out the gift shop too.

This restaurant is as billed -- excellent cuisine, service and atmosphere. We ate there 7 years ago and it has not diminished. I feel that the value is reasonable as well, given the fairly remote location. Not to be missed if in the area. Actually...had lunch and dinner there -- menus were sufficiently different.More

The owner seems to be very defensive and makes snarky comments on bad reviews. What's with the "french fry" comment on every bad review?!? Nobody has mentioned fries except the owner. If you can't take negative feedback, maybe you shouldn't be in the business. As...for fresh ingredients and table cloths, many restaurants in Newfoundland have the same...That's nothing special and shouldnt be used to justify raising prices (and you charge for the view?!?!Seriously?!?) And saying you are isolated as an excuse?!? You're up the coast....Not in Iqaluit! All poor excuses IMOMore

Dining room is lovely and staff could not be more helpful, kind, and on their game. Ocean view. We went for lunch and wish instead that we had tried dinner. The lunch menu was not that enticing, sandwiches, simple salads, soup. Nothing that showed how...this restaurant is known to shine.More

We booked a reservation but probably didn't need to. Our waitress was lovely, helpful and personable. The moose dumplings were delicious, and the seafood was excellent. We had a table at the front window which provided a great view of the harbour. Service was prompt....The decor features local artists including very cool sculptures out of antler which are available for purchase. I can't recommend this more highly.More
