We went there twice while we were vacationing in Chester. First day, my husband and I split a fisherman's platter. It was delicious. Second visit I had the scallops and my husband had the clams and haddock. The food was delicious and the service was...outstanding. I have driven past this restaurants many times and always noticed how many cars were parked outside. Well I know why now. Its the food and the great service. Seafood was very good, would order seafood without fries they are frozen unless you enjoy them, without fries you get more seafood, excluding the seafood platter.

I've been hesitating on writing this review. It's a hard one. We've been to the Island View many times. Generally it's a good experience and with COVID staffing issues plaguing the service sector it's hard to post anything negative about a place you like but...I...have to be honest and maybe it will save someone else the frustration we experienced. We visited on Tuesday August 2 at 2:30pm. We figured it wouldn't be too busy a rainy Tuesday after a long weekend, but we were very wrong. It was about a 20 minute wait for a table. Husband had his heart set on the clams and scallops and we had driven all that way, what was another 20 minutes. We saw lots of clams coming out while we waited so he was even more excited to be there, worth the wait. We ordered onion rings and corn chowder to start, a one piece fish and chips for myself and the he ordered his clams and scallops. At that point he was told they had no more clams, scallops or shrimp. We had driven all that way, waited 20 minutes for a table so we weren't walking away without eating. He was very disappointed but accepted it, things happen, and ordered a lobster sandwich. We also ordered a chicken fingers and fries to go. I told him I wasn't sure fries came with the lobster sandwich so he should check when she came back, if not he could get a side order. He caught her as she walked by one time and she said it came with fries. After about 20 minutes we still had no drinks, silverware or ketchup when she arrived with the onion rings and fish and chips. We assumed his would be right behind. After 15 minutes of waiting we stopped another waitress and asked if we could at least silverware and ketchup so I could start eating. Another waitress dropped them off and then our waitress brought our drinks, we asked if his was coming and she said it was. 10 more minutes passed and his corn chowder and lobster sandwich, no fries came. I was done by then so he just ate what I didn't. At that point we just wanted to go. When he finished she came to clean the table. When we ordered I told her just to have them do the chicken fingers at the same time as everything else. I could see they were busy and that would make it faster. We had already been at the table for close to an hour, so I asked if they were ready. They hadn't even been put on, I told her not to bother. We paid out bill, 56.25, and left. If she had told us while we were waiting in line that the clams and scallops were not available, we probably would have left then. But we saw them coming out with orders of clams so we had expectations. Even worse was tables that sat down after us were served clams, my husband was so mad he couldn't talk to the waitress. We give a lot of leeway for COVID, missing the to go order - fair enough, but serving one appetizer and one meal 25 minutes before the other appetizer and meal is just not ok, short staffed or not. No silverware or drinks, we just felt forgotten. I still love this place, but this whole thing for us could have been avoided by letting us know that their most popular seafood items were not available as we stood waiting for a table.More

I ordered the fish and chips. So gross. When I took a bite of the fish, as I was chewing I just got a bunch of grease coming out with each chew. It was so gross. There was entirely too much batter. I do not...think they let the batter drip off a bit before putting it into the fryer. I do not think they change their oil too often either. It tasted like old gross oil. I could not taste anything other than the gross oil. The fries were soggy and tasted like the oil too. The bottom of the container had a layer of grease. Top it all off, I spent most of the night in the bathroom with the back door trots. It baffles me that folks are giving the fish and chips a high rating. Save your money and find a better place to eat.More

We stopped here for supper recently after a drive along the south shore and the meal and service made for a truly enjoyable end to a lovely day. Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant and the seafood was fresh and delicious to say the...least. Highly recommend giving it a try !More

First, let me start with the positives about this establishment. It has a great location, looking out on the water with tables both inside and outside. There is a nice bakery that sells a good variety of tasty treats and fresh buns. Service was friendly....The fish and chips were thoroughly enjoyed by those who ordered it. And there is lots of parking. On the other hand, I ordered the daily special which was a lobster roll with potato salad and cole slaw. Terrible! It smelled fishy and was overloaded with mayo. Plus, it was served with fries, not potato salad or cole slaw. I had an upset stomach all night! Should have had the fish and chips. There is also an ice cream take-out located at the restaurant, but when we were there, they only had a slim choice of flavors.More

Our first visit back in a few years and was a good one. We were there with friends, who had advised we get there when the doors open, as it is so popular. We were there before the doors opened and there was a line...up! We did get in and got a table overlooking the beauty of the shore, with Oak Island in the distance. The menu is predominantly seafood and lots of it. Our friends shared an order of fried clams (it was massive!!) and a small order of French fries. Hubby ordered a turkey salad sandwich and I ordered the battered shrimp and fries. We were all pleased with our choices. It was tasty, hot and beautifully prepared. The batter on the clams and on the shrimp was light and not greasy. There was no room for dessert but we did purchase some baked goodies from their bakery. Will definitely returnMore

Loved the fish & chips which we enjoyed on the picnic tables. Informal setting and the food is delicious. Some people ate in their cars with a view of the ocean. Great views. Would highly recommend.

The best fish and chips I’ve had in a long time. The batter was light, fluffy, not too greasy. Also lovely to sit and look at the ocean while eating.

Ordered our food and waited. People who came in long behind us were served ahead of us. When we asked where our food was the waitress brought it out cold. She said she got busy serving walkin customers ! Asked to see the manager and...was told there wasn't one. Had one meal comped . I ate mine because I was starved. Just got off the phone with the owners daughter . She was in the kitchen that night. She did not want to listen to my complaint, interrupted me at every turn . and hung up on me. We were loyal customers for 20 years. Not anymore!More

We are locals and went here to celebrate an Anniversary. What a mistake ! Fish , shrimp, clams and fries were overcooked and dried out. No celebration was had ! Suffered from indigestion all night . I was told they were understaffed . If they...couldn't handle the amount of customers seated in the dining room along with the take outs, choose one or the other to serve and serve them well . I have managed a busy restaurant in the past and whether we were understaffed or not, my goal as a manager was to see things ran smoothly and that everything coming from the kitchen was consistent. There was no management at Island View ! The staff were all running around like chickens with their heads cut off . We will NEVER go back or recommend this place.More

This was the worst seafood chowder I have ever encountered. Although the menu described the chowder as “creamy”, this was not the case. The chowder had the consistency of skim milk that had been further diluted with water. Absolutely tasteless. The potato cubes outnumbered the...seafood. The chowder was topped with a teaspoon of melted butter but this did nothing to improve the taste or consistency. Do yourself a favour and do not waste your money by ordering.More
