Excellent menu featured a few dishes we haven't tried before - My husband and I loved the Scotch Eggs and curried deep fried deviled eggs. Extensive wine & beer list, and the whisky list is huge - great place to try some new ones. Service was excellent from the owner/operator who helped us pick out after-dinner whisky. Place was busy in a good way, glad we had a reservation.

After checking they would be open for lunch (they were very prompt in replying) we arrived for a lateish lunch to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Got seated immediately and were brought food and drink menus. An Austrian lager and a draught Steigl radler were both good. The starter of the Metzger sausage with warm pretzel and beer wholegrain mustard was excellent. The sausage was very tasty. Hangar steak with fries and salad amd the chicken supreme with roasted corn, peppers, crema and lime was nicely presented and tasted amazing. The waitress knew her job and was hapoy to chat at the end but not intrusive during the meal except to check it was all to our liking and to see if we needed another drink. It was heartening that although i finished eating awhile before my husband she didn't try to whip the plate away like so many places, who seem to think sitting for 2 seconds with an empty plate in front of you is wrong. The bill was reasonable, sadly we were too full for dessert. But it was a delighful experience during these difficult covid times.

Had lunch there yesterday and it was great. My wife had the beet salad and then the fish&chips, I had the hand cut chips and Steelhead. Absolutely fantastic! My fish was a dish that could be served in any high end restaurant in the country. I was even surprised at the size of the portion I received.

This restaurant was a good outdoor option for a sunny afternoon lunch in Bayfield. My boyfriend loved his fish and chips however I was underwhelmed by my Smash burger. The burger was pretty large with the two patties and very saucy/cheesy - I'd wished I ordered another choice. The service experience we had wasn't great - the person looking after our table seemed very disinterested and grumpy. If I'd ordered another menu option and someone else had served us I think it would have been a better experience.

Too bad the staff was so unkind as we had high hopes for this place. The hostess could not care less where we wanted to sit even though the place was 80% empty. And the waitress was flat out rude. She would not even wait to hear what people around the table wanted for drinks, just asked one person and left. The food was good, even though after these two unwelcoming experiences we just wanted to chow down and leave. If I had to rate the food only I’d probably give it four stars, not five as the prices are a tad high for what you get. But with this terrible service (thank you Chris) I can’t compel myself to give it more than two.

We had a lovely dinner at The Black Dog on this cold, winter night. We were seated at a table for two right beside the blazing fireplace which was wonderful. We enjoyed cocktails, iced tea, delicious potato and leek soup followed by vegetable curry with chicken as well as the pretzel starter with sausage and the flat iron steak with carrots, broccoli and fries with gravy. Dessert was yummy carrot cake with cream on the side. By the time we finished our meals the restaurant had filled up with happy patrons.. It was the best meal we have had in Bayfield in months. The Black Dog's original black labrador lived a long, wonderful life but has sadly passed away but our server happily explained that The Black Dog has adopted a new, young black lab pup but the pup off for the evening - hopefully having a nice, cozy nap!

The Brussels sprouts were Delecious with a generous serving sIze that you can share. The chicken dish was good but I would have liked a lighter sauce instead of the creamy sauce The add on steak was cooked properly and seasoned very well. A little fatty but highly recommend

My husband and I ate dinner here 3 years ago and really enjoyed ourselves. Last weekend was the first time we've been back since then, and it was even better than the last time! They have patio tables and picnic tables set out social distanced apart and require you to wear your face mask when you aren't in your seat. The service was excellent and besides the bees that absolutely attacked us while having our lunch, we really had a great time. We tried a couple beers that were very very good, especially the 'Delerium' from Belgium. We have had a couple Belgium style beers now, and have really got to distinguish the taste from other beers. So delicious! My hubby had the burger for lunch with a large side of fries. It was huge and he was in heaven! Can't go wrong with the burger! I had the Halloumi salad and absolutely loved it! The mix of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers with the fried Halloumi and quinoa was just so good. It was the perfect portion for a good hearty lunch too. We would have stayed and had more beer had the bees not been so bad, however, you simply can't control that. We love Black Dog and will be back again some day soon.

I have dined at the Black Dog several times over the years, but not for quite a few years at this point. I was introducing a friend to Bayfield and we were pleased to get a table on the patio for a late lunch. The patio is lovely (with lots of umbrellas) and although there are a lot of tables, they are arranged in such a way that you don't feel like you're on top of your neighbours (bravo!). The menu is not extensive, but there are diverse choices and I have a feeling they do everything very well. Our burgers were very good and the fries were PERFECT (even 30 years ago when it was the Admiral, this spot had the BEST FRIES). I was envious of a burrata salad that was served to a nearby table. Drinks were reasonably priced. At first glance, the menu looked a little bit expensive but when we thought about it, we paid almost the same for a "diner experience" on the Square in Goderich. I was a bit surprised by the service which was adequate, but indifferent. Next time I am in Bayfield with my partner, I will definitely bring him to the Black Dog.

My friends and I are unfamiliar with the Bayfield area but the Black Dog menu caught our eye right away during our trip. I was NOT disappointed! The big soft pretzel was served warm and stayed warm while I took my time with it which is some sort of magic. The fish and chips were AMAZING. I knew as soon as I cut into it that it was the most beautiful fish I've had, and I've had fresh east coast fare. The server was amazing, 10/10 but I didn't catch his name. He took great care of our friend who was lactose and needed a substitution. The only reason it isn't 5 star would be the cocktail I enjoyed first. The brand of ginger beer was too subtle to properly compliment my dark and stormy so the rum was a hair overpowering. Overall lovely food and the pub itself has a great atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!

During this pandemic this restaurant is a very pleasant experience. We three were in the patio area. This space is all socially distanced as is the interior. The service was prompt and excellent. The Haloumi salad was superb as was the tomato and fennel soup of the day. The escargots in a mushroom sauce were delicious. Warning lots of garlic. The fish part of fish and chips was overbattered but the chips were very good. Really a lovely spot to eat in Bayfield.

A terribly disappointing experience. We booked a table for two for our 3rd anniversary. When we booked we were only able to get a table for 7:30. They close at 8:30. When we arrived there were empty tables so we could have gone earlier if they had called us, and not felt like we had to rush. We struggled with the limited wine list and felt pressured to make a choice without any assistance from the server. We each had the soup of the day which was a roasted butternut squash. It arrived with pine nuts. It was bland and would have benefited from salt and pepper but neither were on the table. The soup was also served in a deep bowl and was a bit much for an appetizer (it was not appetizing) For our mains we had the steak frites and chicken supreme. Each were over $35 dollars. The steak I believe was a roast not a steak. If was tough and under seasoned . The fries were cold, old,and woody but were smothered in a bland gravy to make them seem warm. The chicken supreme tasted stale. Overall, we were left disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to others.

Two retired couples out for a fine meal which we did. To experience here. Tough tenderloin and tasteless steaks for three and a hard to cut through pork chop is what we got plus no potato offerings except fries. When the waitress came and asked how the meal was and was told about the tough steaks, she answered sorry, and that was it. We go to a lot of fine restaurants together but will never ever darken the doors of the Black Dog again!

We had a wonderful meal here! 2 of us had the trout, one the steak and one the fish and chips. All meals were very tasty and the service was awesome. I highly recommend stopping in but give yourself lots of time as they can have lineups on occasion but well worth the wait.

Drove an hour for the fish dish!!! Drove an hour for the fish and I would do it again and again and again and again. I don’t even like beans and this was maybe the best fish dish I have ever had. Get the steelhead !!!! A nice glass of white and let the world pass you by. Outstanding!! Well done !!
