Passing through Orangeville on a nice Fall day my sister and I decided to stop at Bluebird for a late lunch. Even at 1:30 p.m. we had to wait a bit for a table. (Clearly a local favourite). This was our first visit and we weren't sure what to expect.
Well worth the brief wait.
Staff are courteous, efficient and friendly. Comfortable seating inside amid tasteful decor. Napkins are paper not cloth but otherwise Bluebird seems slightly upscale.
So many tempting menu items...and then our server introduced the day's Specials. Oh my.
We enjoyed a glass of the (very decent) house red while deciding (finally) on two dishes each: Mussels in a rich rose sauce, a silky Potato leek soup, a freshly dressed Spinach-blue cheese salad, and grilled Calamari on top of a thick tomato sauce. We sopped up our plates with their excellent bread.
The Calamari could have been a tad more firm, but overall, the kitchen here clearly knows what it is doing. Each dish was full-on flavour and nicely presented.
We were so glad to discover this place, and hope to return some day soon.

First and foremost, thank you so much for stopping in at the Bluebird to give us a try! We feel so grateful when people go out on a whim to join us not knowing what to expect. Secondly, thank you for taking the time to share your incredible feedback with us. We are so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your experience and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and give us a great rating!
We apologize for the brief wait for your table at lunch but unfortunately with COVID and complying with the Public Health guidelines set out for us, we are only currently running with 7 tables inside. It does quite often make things difficult for us but we try to get our guests in as quickly as possible. COVID is also the reason behind the paper disposable napkins as opposed to our regular linen.
Please let us know if you will be passing through Orangeville again and would like to dine with us, we would be happy to make a reservation for you.

Went here for lunch with my wife yesterday. This was our first time out since Covid. We sat outside and had a lovely server I believe her name is Sara. She was so caring and genuine. I enjoyed the Mussels a special for the day and my wife enjoyed the Florentine Pizza. They use real 00 Italian flour and you can really taste it in the dough. Everything was wonderful. The owners Rick and Michelle always make a point of stopping by every table to ensure the experience is what they want it to be. I really like this touch as its also a great time to get to know the owners a little better. Thanks so much!

I like unassuming little places with really awesome food. This place: check and check. I'm still thinking about the Angel Hair & Shrimp pasta I had last night and even more so of the Shrimp Gorgonzola appetizer. Really impressive stuff. The birthday girl at our table ordered Fettucine Pesce which, quite simply, just blew my mind. The bread served before the meal was easily the best bread offering I've ever had. Almost had me content with just it... We ordered the grilled calamari as well as a side of brussel sprouts with what I think was pancetta. Unreal. So delish - and I can't stand brussel sprouts! That says it all. Our server was a pro. So sincere and attentive. Really fantastic dining experience. I can't wait to go back.

When you dine here you are always guaranteed a wonderful meal! Food is always so delicious and the Owners and Staff are so welcoming and attentive! We went this weekend to celebrate my Husband's birthday and our Anniversary. The owner even remembered what we were celebrating from when I booked the reservation, and came to our table to say "Happy Birthday" and wish us a "Happy Anniversary". A very nice personal touch indeed.
We started with the Woodfired Bruschetta, and then had the Escargot Alla Pernod and split a Caesar Alla Bluebird. All were very tasty! My husband had the Vitello Parmigiano while I had the Fettuccine Pesce. (my mouth is watering just thinking about it again) We finished with a dessert each. While I drooled over the White Chocolate Cheesecake with Raspberry Sauce, my husband devoured the Chocolate Banana dessert wrapped in Phyllo Pastry. We were so stuffed but this was a delicious way to celebrate two important dates for us. Thank You so much for a very safe and enjoyable dining experience. :-)

I have to say I’m pretty surprised by the last review. My experience of dining here (twice) was extremely pleasant, tasty and memorable. Everyone at my table on both occasions was really happy with their meal - pasta and 1 pizza. On my first trip we visited during lunch and I had this beautiful angel hair pasta with Sun-dried tomatoes finished with goats cheese. I loved it so much I ordered it on my second visit. I tried some of my sisters chicken fettuccine Parma, also epic. But it wasn’t just the food and wine that we enjoyed, the service was great too. Very attentive, friendly, fast. Also the manager made a point of going around to each table to check in with his customers. This is a rare practice and adds a really nice touch to the entire experience.
Have I been to Italy? Yes. Is this super authentic Italian? No, but it taste damn good and it’s made with fresh ingredients. My only recommendation would be to invest in some warmer decor to cozy the place up otherwise it was perfect. Can’t wait to visit again.

I go to the Bluebird fairly regularly, and have always been very impressed with everything. Today was not the case. Due to road construction, we were delayed. I called ahead to let them know, and was told the table was needed in an hour and 15 minutes. So, we went ahead and were seated quickly. We were not told the specials, i had to ask what the soup was. I only know that there were other specials because i overheard the waitress tell other tables. Our starter arrived, the smoked salmon. It was very good, but came with 4 tiny pieces of very dry/toasted baguette. I asked for more, and waited for a very long time. When our meal arrived, my salad was overdressed, and the dressing was very sharp. I waited a long time before i could flag down a waitress to ask for salt. We were not offered dessert, and had to wait for ages to pay the bill, which finally arrived, 2 hours after we were seated, and well after the time we were told we had. Not once during the meal did anyone check on us or our meal. Meanwhile, at other tables, a man was checking in regularly with customers. I absolutely understand that during covid, restaurants are having difficulty with staffing, and we were prepared for things to happen slowly. But, being ignored, not told the specials, not offered dessert when other tables are being well taken care of was dissapointing.

I read mixed reviews but decided to try this restaurant out in any event. Was put off by the policy of being able to reserve a table in inside but not to convert that to outdoors. Arrived for our 1;15 reservation and had to wait fifteen minutes to be seated. Lunch took nearly two hours with long waits for the drinks, appetizers and entrees. Nothing came at the same time and meals were brought to the table at different times. Had to wait ten minutes for two slices of pizza to be put in a doggie bag. I would not recommend this establishment. Food was mediocre at best; definitely not a warm and welcoming place

At the risk of sounding repetitive to our response on your Yelp review, once again we are truly disappointed and embarrassed that we fell short on the day you visited us. We did try to reach out to you directly with a personal message both here and on Yelp with the hopes you will contact us directly but have not had any luck in reaching you personally. We are not about to make excuses, we have definitely experienced some re-opening challenges, and we try very hard to make sure tables are ready upon arrival but with limited seating and capacity sometimes tables are not finished in the time we have allotted which results in a seating delay but nonetheless the experience you had is not our standard practice; we assure you of that. We have the utmost faith that we can regain your confidence in the Bluebird if given the opportunity so we would truly appreciate the chance to make this right. We have sent you our contact information directly and truly hope to hear from you soon.

Enjoyed lunch with a friend here recently. Great menu, food was delicious and good value. We were in a pasta mood and enjoyed the manicotti(rich and freshly baked) and linguini(al dente and light). Dessert was bananas in filo pastry(hot on the inside and crispy on the outside) with ice cream and creme brulee(light and creamy), both were finished rather quickly, lol. The service was a little slow, but not sure if they are lacking in wait staff and other restaurant staff like so many places right now.
Will definitely return!

We have been to the Bluebird many times and this is the first time my husband and I were disappointed. With the menu change has come no change in prices but much less food. We had lunch and thank goodness we ordered soup or we would have left hungry. Normally when ordering a sandwich or in my case crepes they would have a side dish of some sort but not this time. A small salad or fries would have been nice but neither were part of the meal. I feel that 15.00 dollars for two small crepes was a little too much, my husband had a wrap and a few pickles for a similar price. Disappointed!!

As we mentioned to you in our response to your direct message, we were surprised to receive this feedback as the menu, portion sizes and accompaniments have not changed in many many years. The sandwiches and wrap have never come with a side dish and are priced out according only to what is being served. We have continued to use all the same suppliers that have always been used to ensure the quality and portion size is the same as it always has been. Our serving staff is trained as part of their steps of service to always offer an appetizer or starter no matter the dish being ordered. As we previously said to you, we would love to speak to you regarding this experience in more detail and that is still very much the case. We were in Orangeville on business and wanted to try a downtown Mom and Pop restaurant rather than a chain and the Bluebird had a parking spot out front so this is where we stopped. When asked if we had reservations at 2:00 in the afternoon, we were surprised but even at that hour, they were extremely busy. That said, Rick quickly found us a table and welcomed us to his restaurant.
We were served quickly and our food was excellent! Fresh and handmade and portions adequate to satisfy.
Unfortunately we were in a bit of a hurry and did not stay to enjoy drinks or dessert, but we will definitely come back, and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a better than average dining experience.

Went for lunch.
Is the best experience by far that we had while traveling around Ontario for 18 days. In fact, it is a very long time since we were more impressed with any restaurant or server.
Suffice to say that the food was absolutely fabulous. And the waitress was from a bygone era when being successful as a server required maturity, exceptional people skills and knowledge about what constitutes proper etiquette and manners.
The restaurant is very busy, so are told that reservations are almost a must, especially for dinner.
If we lived in the area, would be regulars.

We drove by Orangeville on the way to somewhere else many times, and decided to go for lunch today for no reason whatsoever, we found a review of another restaurant that sounded pretty good, and headed out, after parking the car, while walking to the other restaurant, we walked by Bluebird, and the menu has more options so we decided to just pop in, sure enough, it was very full but we manage to get two seats at the bar.
The service was genuine, and the food was great, both in terms of quality and portion, we were already 80% full after appetizers.
The atmosphere was excellent, and we have even been to the main dining room yet, we will go back very soon
Another interesting thing was we were sitting right by the entrance, and there was an endless stream of people coming in to buy gift cards, and I think it was the owner that knew half the people that came in by name

Enjoyed the seafood cannelloni, stuffed well with seafood, nice portion in rose sauce. The Linguine Scallops had nice tasting scallops, but lacked in flavor. Pasta was floating in Olive oil, felt the pieces of zucchini & onion could of been bigger portions, no anchovies as stated in menu. As for our Caesar salad, disappointing for the price. We've had better take out Caesar salads at Swiss Chalet.

Travelling alone and first time in Orangeville and so glad I found a true independent restaurant with great food, staff, an inviting but upscale vibe and attention to detail. I chatted with the owner for a few minutes and his passion and genuine care for his customers, what he offers etc was more than evident. Had a great wine, appetizer (the mushrooms! - try em) and a pasta dish that was filling, rich and unique. A most enjoyable evening. Isn't it great when we find a local, independent restaurant with real food, great staff and hands-on owners! Thank you to the Bluebird team.

We were in Orangeville for a horse show and the front desk attendant at the Best Western recommended this local restaurant. We could not get reservations but walked in and sat at the bar. The service was fantastic - Cassandra at the bar and the owner could not have been more accommodating. The strip loin was cooked perfectly. We will be back.
