Unique Dining experience along the Welland Canal with adjoining kitchen store. Two spacious hotel suites located above the restaurant. Daily Lunch & Dinner features, Featuring Local craft beers & Ontario Wines. Outside Patio overlooking the canal
We often stop at Canalside for lunch when we are in Port Colborne. Once again, we very much enjoyed the food, and this time also the conversation with Greg regarding Bruce Springsteen (Greg is a huge fan!). My wife had the roasted re pepper chicken...wrap with fries, and I had the beef with mushrooms wrap special with clam chowder. All were very good! We will definitely continue to eat here when in the area.More
In these times of Covid supporting small local restaurants is more important than ever so we were delighted our two experiences at Canalside proved so enjoyable.
Our first experience was during a ride along the Friendship bike trail. At our half way point and in...need of refreshment we stumbled across the Canalside. Always looking fro local craft beer we tried the "house brand" Canal side Pale ale. and what a good decision that was excellent beer at a good price we had to have a second pint just to confirm how good it was. As we sat outside we watched as a cargo ship entered the canal and passed under the raised bridge. A great way to spend a bonus sunny fall afternoon.
A week later we returned for the Thursday night "Date night " special. Soup or salad, an entree, a shared desert and coffee for $25.00 per person. It was great to see that the small restaurant was close to capacity so important in times of covid. Service was relaxed and not rushed. We were left with the impression that our table was ours for the night. We again sampled the house beer, which again proved excellent. And we both had the Jambalaya. Unlike a previous review we were greatly impressed. It was served piping hot and there was no lack of lobster. Now it was spicy but what do you expect?
Being date night there was a local musician providing acoustic music that added to the ambiance of the evening. It seems to me as a visitor to the area that this restaurant is an important asset to the town of Port Colborne. Given the challenges faced by small independent restaurants these days it is so important that we recognize and support these locations.More
Just had dinner at the this restaurant the lovely menu item turned into something we are not quite sure what menu item it was...
This is what was ordered
Lobster & Chorizo Jambalaya $21
Atlantic lobster, chorizo sausage, peppers, onions, spiced tomato, olive
This is...what was served
The plate ended up with black bean chili mixed in the thick red paste of pasta with three 1cm pieces of ”lobster”, onions, and chorizo peppers.
For some unknown reason our dinner took so long to prepare the we were given a discount.
I had the blueberry chicken it was lovely.
Will not return. Over prices pub food.More
Had supper for the first time at Canalside. I had a chicken wrap and the person I was with had chicken parm. Both were very good. I'd like to go back and try other items on the menu as they all looked tasty. I wasn't...crazy about the service. We walked up to the "wait before being seated sign" on the side walk. Waited a few minutes. The waitress walked right by us without acknowledging us and went across the street to the extra seating. She came back and we asked if this table was ok, was right in front of us and away from the other occupied table, it was a table for four. She said ok, if a party of four comes she'll ask us to move. What? In the middle of supper they expect people to move? After she brought our drinks, she went across the street again. This time she was walking with two other people to their car. Chatting and patting their backs. Those people got in the car and left. Walking back she was holding her shield down. Then came to our table to take our order. Sorry but I expect the waiter/waitress not to be mingling with other people off the street who are not at the restaurant. Did she wash her hands when she returned? I have no idea. To me it just didn't look professional nor did it look like she was being cautious. The food was great, can't beat the scenery and the kitchen store was great to walk around after a meal. Will return.More
Sat out by the canal and had a couple of oakville brewed blonds and vinos with the wife. Tried the Asian potstickers (they deep fry these and they were really good) and the prosciutto rollatini, Asiago cranberry chicken and beef brisket platter. Prosciutto was okay,...chicken was very good, brisket was a mini portion (not near enough for an adult). Brisket came with delicious fries which helped make up for the tiny portion.More
