Called for take out/pick up. I was told at 6:45 that pick up would be 7:30. I'm only about 4-5 minutes from there, so perfect. I arrive a minute or two early and park right in front. sidewalk tables are occupied and several people are...milling around, either waiting for takeout or looking to sit or order. A woman is at a reception station on the sidewalk delivering to a couple who inquire about getting some caesar cocktails added to their order. When she appeared to be done with them, I went to offer my name, and she turned on her heels and went in, ignoring me. I waited a couple minutes and no one returned to the reception station (which leaves you wondering why it's there), so i went just into the doorway so I was visible (I'm pretty big, so not easy to miss). Another worker, way back in the back and puts her hand up in the air, hollering "wait outside, we'll call you when your order is ready." No effort to ask my name, or if I'm there for a pickup. I can see there are orders sitting on a couple of tables 10-15' inside the door. A few more minutes later, a woman covered in tattoos slides up the sidewalk, through the doorway and up to the table where the orders are sitting - she is immediately served without being yelled at, and departs within a minute with bags. there are still two bags sitting on the table.
More minutes go by and a couple of quick visits to the reception table are met quickly with 'no more takeout tonight'. Then the person vanishes. Meanwhile the large man keeping his respectful distance 5-6 feet back is ignored despite efforts to get attention without being rude.
At 7:42 a young gent who has served me before steps to the door and says "I have a takeout for XXXX", that's me I say, and he immediately produces the card thingy, with no bag in hand, and say, "would you like to leave a gratuity for the staff, sir". I replied politely, through my mask, which I put on immediately before getting out of the car, and said, "not if that's my food that's been sitting on the table since before I got here, 13-14 minutes ago. He apologized and said "I'm afraid it is , sir". I said to him, "really it's not your fault, I attempted to get attention at 7:30 and this other server here (the yeller had now come out and was attending to a table) told me to wait outside, and didn't even ask for my name or if I was picking up. He again apologized, but the other server was chirping "I just told you to wait outside!". Tone. deaf.
The worst is yet to come. The food, of course, was now dead cold. I should have guessed by the deportment on the phone call. I asked for a 2 peiece halibut and chips. "No halibut". So, then I say, "what's left, haddock, cod, perch?" "Haddock" "okay and an order of crab cakes please", "Okay I'll see you at 7:30" "Click"...
Well, it was cold. (No kidding, eh?) The fries were like cardboard, tasteless, flavourless, doughy cardboard. The fish, while cold, was not dry inside, but the batter was awful, doughy, like another reviewer said and soggy, tasteless, zero appeal. And I ate about a quarter of it or less, and it's burning a hole in my gut. Beleive it or not, I tried a crab cake,, and it wasn't awful. Maybe a chilled one tomorrow as a snack may be okay. Otherwise this place would have gotten a 1 instead of a 2.
I should mention I called the prvious Friday, 4 days ago, and they answered at 7:20 saying, "sorry, we're closed for takeout". In a beach town. In August. Pathetic.
Under previous ownership, even if a bit sketchy with the pandemic, the halibut and chips were awesome. Now, crap.More
