Beautiful restaurant, but service extremely slow!

The restaurant is beautiful inside although we ate on the patio which was a bit sparse and felt like it was pieced together. Not a great first impression! We arrived at 7:30 and did not see a waiter until well after 8 pm and only after we asked a number of times. We were able to order finally and our appetizer did not arrive until well after 9 pm. Crazy. We had the burrata for two which although delicious was not worth the price point at $45. We then had the mussels which were amazing followed by the gnocchi (also really good) and the octopus which was disappointing (chewy and a bit tough). It took over 3.5 hours to complete our meal because the service was so slow. And all we had was a bunch of appetizers. The only saving grace was the DJ and music. This was our first time at the restaurant and we were disappointed over the slow service, especially at a resto that appears to be on the higher end. So a solid 3 stars is all this experience was worth.

Service good, nice atmosphere. No bread before meal? Ordered steak at lunch but they DO NOT make bearnaise. They only make it at dinner? Don't waste your money here, go to the Keg.

We enjoyed our first visit here. Free onsite valet parking (perhaps because of a wedding event that evening?) Found the restaurant to be upscale in looks but still felt friendly and welcoming. Enjoyed our dinners - each of us had the specials, so we'll have to try their steaks on the next visit. Both the lobster pasta and the risotto were very tasty. The first cocktail I ordered wasn't made to my liking and they happily replaced it twice with no fuss, and ended up being comped - nice touch. We look forward to returning.

An unwelcome surprise at the end!

While the food was fine and the service fine and the ambience fine, when our out of country guest wishing to take us out for lunch asked if the gratuity were already included was told “never”. She proceeded to give a nice tip and we were horrified later to learn that not only was the tip already included but that she had just tipped on the tip. Unacceptable!

Chose this patio for dinner

Chose this patio for dinner thinking it would be a great first date night. The patio is great, but I was disappointed with the food. Had the bone in strip, the steak was ok, nothing special and I was charged $10 more then the price on the menu for it. The side was buttered vegetables, although I have a dairy allergy.. they did replace the vegetables after eating some an asking, the steak wasn’t replaced... so I was up sick throughout the night. This was a major disappointment.

The steak was tough to chew on and hard to swallow; almost as hard to swallow as the $20,000 deposit I regretfully gave these swindlers. They will steal from you in front of your very eyes.

Had to Share - Try It, You’ll See Why

Steakhouses and especially those with event venues - even really good ones like the picturesque Doctor’s House, aren’t usual known for serving an actual “Lunch” menu. But, I thought I’d give their on-site bright and cheerful XII Steakhouse a try. I was meeting a friend who lives north of Toronto and Kleinburg is close to major highways. Turns out it was the perfect destination. Easy to get to for both of us, and a stunning selection of lunchtime light fare... of course, one could still order a steak with all the fixings, so this made me and my guest very happy. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her Citrus Fennel Salad, which looked beautiful and was plentiful enough as a main course, while I revelled in the Daily Soup (Squash) and the delicious Halibut. The Wine List spans the gamut from well-priced to the Special Occasion Bottle selections, and the By-The-Glass choices are broad enough to satisfy even the most picky. To round put the meal I had a cafe au lait. You know a restaurant “gets it”, when they bring a selection of sweeteners including Demerara! I almost hate to write this review, as I’d hate to see this terrific spot overrun, but in fairness, I felt I had to share. Try it. You’ll see why I highly recommend it.

Not worth the price

The ambiance of the place is great - classy and sophisticated decor makes the place seem very expensive and high class. As well as a very friendly and welcoming staff. Though our server was kind, he did not know much about the restaurant's drink menu (was not aware of the different types of beer and vodka they have). The calamari appetizer were priced a few dollars more than the average restaurant yet were much below the standard of other restaurants. First off, the quantity was rather small and the quality was not there. I have had much better at lower end restaurants; they did not resemble traditional Italian-style fried calamari. The bread was also very small and not left at the table. The servers came around once and offered each guest a piece then we never saw the bread again. It was served with butter and goat cheese which was very tasty. What was the MOST DISAPPOINTING was everyones main course. Each of us paid a significant price more than higher steakhouses but were willing to do so as we expected fantastic quality. It was nowhere near fantastic. My husband and I shared th 48oz tomahawk steak priced at approx $160. The steak had a very strange taste that we just could not distinguish but it was so off from a regular steak/marinate taste that my husband only ate two pieces as he was so turned off by the flavour. I tried my best to finish the steak but the only way I could do so was by adding heaping amounts of salt to disguise the odd flavour. Also, for a $160 steak, it was not tender. Everyone else's meals were definately below average as we all agreed that we could make steaks better on a BBQ at home. For the price and quality, this place is at best a 2/5. We were better off going to a place like The Keg which is reasonably priced yet always delicious. Overall, a huge disappointment and way too expensive for what they offer.

XXI CHOP HOUSE disappoints

Parking is free and plentiful; Bread and fig yogurt is excellent; Pinot Grigio best we’ve been served. Onions in soup needed to be cartelized; Brisket sandwich done on Wonder type buns and brisket had no flavour; the Lobster BLT Salad had faux ‘heirloom’ tomatoes, and the lobster was very cold, tasteless and plopped on top without dressing. We had eaten here before but this time was very disappointing.

Fancy but SALTY chefs please TONE DOWN THE SODIUM

Very fancy and classy great menu selection! I loveeee the food but the food could be less Salty Service could improve as well, lack of training is obvious or maybe the restaurant is not used to busy nights? Waiting down the waitress constantly is never fun especially when the restaurant did not look busy.

Not pleased on our second visit

This was our second time visiting and brought family as we highly recommended them. There was 7 of us in total which included 2 children, 3 & 5 yo. We enjoyed our meal and were surprised to see that they took the liberty of charging us 18% gratuity on our bill. We had made reservations for 7 total and were a little annoyed that they kept repeating 8 and we must have corrected them 4 times. They even removed the setting. Bottom line is that it is quite unprofessional to say the least for a local steakhouse. Secondly, wine that I ordered was $16 a glass, however I was charged $19 instead. I had even pointed to the actual wine list to our waiter. Small but still is not acceptable. There were two other tables with couples and on our last visit the same in the evening. I have written a fantastic review in the past, however would no longer recommend this restaurant. There are so many better restaurants. We will not be returning, not even for business purposes.

Excellent service & amazing meal

This was our first time at XXI Chophouse, however we had been to the Doctors house dozens of times in the past. We had dinner reservations for my husbands birthday on a weekday. The restaurants is quite nice. It even has a separate lounging area around a fireplace, which was quite beautiful. Both our meals were very delicious, as was the wine and dessert. They had even presented my husband with dessert and a sparkler. The service was fantastic, as they were attentive and very pleasant. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend.

Not Worth My Money

Based on a menu that looked fantastic and the fact that this place is run by the Doctor's House, my wife and I invited two friends for dinner here in early December. Although the service was excellent and the venue was beautiful, the food was not perfect. For a $500 meal between four friends we all expected perfection. For whatever reason, all our food items (i.e. sides, mains, starters) were lacking sufficient salt. Although we did advise the staff of the problem with our meals and were given a single dessert on the house to share between the four of us, this was in my opinion a poor gesture of goodwill. It would have been nice to have the chef come out and apologize for our poor dinning experience. I did email the restaurant to narrate this story and they offered one free brunch which to me is another poor gesture. Because of these events, I can not recommend this place to anyone. I believe there are much better place in this city where you money can spent and good experience guaranteed.
