This is a grande dame type of location. There are folks in shorts and vacation gear, but a few who make a event of it. On a cool end of summer evening we enjoyed cosmos on the lawn overlooking the pond. The server was delightful...and helped us make a wonderful evening of it. We moved to dinner indoors with another great view. We were hopeful for a great dinner but it was a let down. The oysters were good (hard to go wrong) but the halibut was cooked to utter desiccated woodenness. The dessert was ample but also overcooked. It was disappointing.More

Beautiful location and a grand heritage building. Staff were all very friendly. We had a drink at their bar to start, great service and great mixed drinks. We had the seafood chowder which tasted good, loaded with seafood but a bit shy on broth for...our liking. The seafood pasta was good with lots of seafood and the salmon dinner was delicious. Worth a visit!More

This restaurant is located in a beautiful old estate. The dining room itself is nice but lacks the character of the rest of the building. The room has with lots of windows overlooking the property. We ate here twice during our stay and had a...variety of experiences with both food and service. Some of the food dishes were excellent and others were just ok. My husband loved his steak but I couldn't eat my seafood pasta because it was so salty (which we told our server and she still charged us for the meal). It is clear that the dinning room is short staffed because many tables were left with dishes on them after people had finished. And the service was very slow both nights. I am not sure that I would go out of my way to visit this restaurant, Our experience was....just ok.More

Our first experience was the charcuterie board with wine and cheese late one afternoon. Pricey but very nice sitting by the fire. No complaints regarding the historical property although maintenance is clearly needed. We booked in for dinner and both had beef tenderloin. Our medium-rare...was like shoe leather.I also had the seafood chowder which was OK but not as good as numerous other places I tried on the island. Hoping for improvement I tried the seafood pasta which was nothing special. The serving staff are friendly and well trained so no complaints there. Given that this was the most expensive meal we had on the island it was really disappointing.More

We had dinner at Dalvay by the Sea on September 8, 2021. Great atmosphere but really substandard dinner. The crab cakes arrived cold, send them back - they came back just warm. Our entree’s were a disaster the two seafood pasta arrived and there was...no evidence of a sauce, sent it back and when it was return it has less seafood and it appeared they may have added some cream.it was not a sauce. The server was the highlight of the dinner, she worked hard to make things right but obviously there was no CHEF in the kitchen. The sticky date pudding was great. I would not recommend this establishment for dinne.More

Excellent food and service. Appetizers go for about $10-15, and mains for about $30. My wife had a goat cheese opener, and I had the mussels. For the main course I had the halibut and my wife the salmon. I am lactose intolerant and they...made any modification needed to make my meal milk-free (and yet delicious). With wine and a very good espresso the bill with taxes and all came to about $140- well worth the price for such a good meal in such a lovely setting, wth such a well-trained staff and award winning chef. Definitely recommend.More

We were only at the hotel for one night and decided to go to the restaurant for dinner. For some reason I don’t expect much when I eat in a hotel dining room. Happy to say I was certainly wrong in this case! The dining...room is a nice half circle with windows all around, which were all open to the beautiful sea air. We had a table by a window which we loved. We shared fresh local oysters and a Caesar salad to start and we both had the blackened salmon for our main course. Everything was delicious — the salmon was perfectly cooked and very flavourful, as were the roasted carrots and squash. Garlic mashed potatoes are not my favorite choice of potato as they are usually too creamy for me but these were very nicely done—firm rather than soupy. We shared the sticky date pudding for dessert and it was divine. Food and atmosphere were both top notch. A beautiful evening.More

We had supper here; while the food was generally tasty, at this price point I expect a more refined experience. There were issues with timing, drink orders, quantity of protein, and quality of sides. The staff seem to be mostly summer students, and they're clearly...trying very hard to deliver the right atmosphere. The building is stunning; I would eat lunch here perhaps, to get to see the property again - but wouldn't go for supper.More

I was really looking forward to our dinner at Dalvay by the Sea. I made a reservation weeks ago. From the moment, we were seated we waited for service and food that was substandard. Our mussels were served without a sauce. When we sent them...back they returned with a wine sauce without the alcohol being burnt off leaving them sour. Our main dishes- a scallop risotto and a seafood pasta were awful. The risotto was not cooked and the sauce for the pasta was like a pre-prepared packaged sauce. Our waitress, while pleasant, took a lot of time to return to us after each course and our wine was not served until after the first course and we had to ask for it, as well as, bread. The bread was good. I would not recommend this restaurant if you like fine dinning. Both food and service were terrible. We wasted ninety minutes. It was the worst restaurant experience we have ever had!More

I had lunch here a couple of years ago and thought it would be a lovely spot to celebrate my husband's birthday. Sadly, it wasn't. Starting with the positives: The building is a beauty - built by Alexander MacDonald in 1896 as a summer vacation...home, the now-hotel is situated in a stunningly beautiful part of the Island. On arrival, the welcome was warm and efficient. However ... After an hour's waiting for our order to arrive and enquiring of our server, we were still left with nothing but an empty bread basket. Another server (all very helpful) got the restaurant manager for me who made feeble excuses that meal orders aren't processed until after the appetizer was served and since 2 of our party had ordered steaks which (well done) take 25-30 minutes to cook, this was the source of the delay. Hmmmm. As a peace offering, he agreed to waive the cost of the desserts. Another wait. Our entrees finally arrived, and yes, the steak was deemed excellent (another positive). The seafood chowder, which had been ordered as a main dish vs appetizer, was distinctly lacking in substance (ie seafood). My blackened salmon had spent too long under the heat lamp, the vegetables were inedible (raw). And I don't think Birthday Boy was too thrilled with his chicken. Yes, they were busy and the serving staff did their best but we got the distinct impression that the kitchen was not having the best night. Nor was social distancing in terms of table placement observed. So yes - disappointingly mediocre is the best review I can give.More

Hi - I just called the restaurant. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible via a ramp, however, they do not have a wheelchair accessible washroom which is surprising. I suggested they should rectify that!! Brent
