Went here with some friends mid-afternoon after looking for interesting places to visit in La Malbaie. Initially we were very excited for the tour and cocktails, as the place upon arrival was very intriguing, however, there was no English speaking guide when we arrived. We...were visiting over Quebec's Construction Holiday, so understood that they may be short staffed, but would have thought there may have been some sort of self-guided English tour. We stayed for drinks anyways. It appeared as though everyone else in the bar were served before us, even though we arrived first. We felt like this place has potential, but were left under the impression that they were "busy enough" to change much to accommodate tourists from other provinces. Would still recommend a visit, but call ahead to ensure tours in English are available. Glad that we went for the afternoon and did not pre-book the dinner and show as we were not made to feel overly welcome.More
Has to be the most over priced meal i ever had in my 55 yrs of living and the coldest i ate in any restaurant
Worth the $10.00 for the tour before dinner. Lots of history and the guide was quite funny and informative.
Thank you for you commentory . . . We appreciate
We cane to the bootlegger just by luck and it was really good luck! The location is sooo unique! From the entrance to the bathrooms all really really worth seeing. And the food? GREAT! We had Burgers with fries and salad and every single thing...was as good as it could be. Homemade bbq sauce (best I've ever had), homemade salad dressing, and their own beer brewed by a quebecoise microbrasserie. AWESOME! I will definately go back there!More
thank you for your great remarks we appreciate

Not even close worth the money stay awayMore
Sorry you did not appreciate your meal but I can assure you that our meats are all triple A. Our baby back ribs are not boiled ???? and yes they our coated with our special sauce it is one of our best sellers as for...More
La Maison du Bootlegger is nestled in the middle of nowhere, about a 20 minute drive from the heart of La Malbaie. This very casual place is a tourist attraction that serves ribs and steaks. Patrons must take the "table d'hôte" in order to stay...for the night's concert and party that starts around 9:30pm. The food is average, while prices are steep. But one must consider that prices include the cover charge for the live band. Once dinner is over, everyone moves up to the attic where a live band plays classic rock and the whole place turns to a party! The "western" / "coyote ugly" atmosphere rocks and everyone is invited to have a good time. Note the place closes at midnight.More
Just wanted to point out that you also get a guided tour during the evening on top of the band . . . Sorry to see that you thought our food was average? Thank you for your comments . Johanne Brassard
I had been here before so I knew what I wanted to order. I can't go past the French Onion soup as an appetizer and the ribs for dinner! And they didn't disappoint. Every meal also comes with a house salad, garlic bread, onions and...the very famous Backfire sauce, dessert and tea/coffee. Make sure you taste everything (probably a good idea to not eat all day because you will gorge yourself here)! The dinner also comes with a visit of this historic and quirky house, it is good fun and they can do them in english or french. After dinner the band comes on and does a live show for about two hours. Everyone is up dancing and enjoying themselves it really is incredible. Plan to stay there the whole night, you won't want to leave. Definitely make sure you book early as they are busy on weekends, but don't miss this place!More
Thank you for your great comments - I will pass it on to all my staff. Johanne Brassard
Food is ok but what you need to see is the building itself. Built during prohibition there is a maze within the restaurant. Dine in a unique piece of history, and a truly 1 of a kind building. Great live band. Biggest downfall is it...is a bit out of the way.More
Good food, friendly staff, great fun. Enjoyed the tour of the old building. Great live band and party atmosphere. Unfortunately it is a long way out of town and the double expensive tax fare can make it a very expensive night. Perhaps a shuttle bus...would be a good idea for the restaurant to consider.More
Thank you for your gteat comments. Looking into the possibility of a shuttle
