We had great sandwiches and dessert here in safe covid conditions; husband had ham and cheese on baguette while I had grilled cheese sandwich. Then pastry along with coffee and fizzy water. Returned later for 4 cookies and 2 date scones.

An amazing local bakery. The croissants and pastries we tried here were excellent. The order taker was very helpful, taking time to explain and answer questions in English. The coffee is just Nespresso and is OK - the star here are the baked goods.

I really enjoyed the breakfast i ordered. There are both indoor & outdoor sitting place. My order, LE CROQUE MADAME 16$ was very tasty. (Club bread, swiss cheese, Bechamel sauce, black forest ham & egg). I like the runny yoke, but those who don’t like runny yoke, you might want to request. My husband got LE QUEBECOIS 24$ (2 eggs, bacon, sausages, ham, bean, pork cretons. ). We liked mine better.

It was a lovely place before the new owners completely distorted it. Exit the refectory tables which were so nice. Now we are treated to random chairs already all stained and small laminated tables like we see everywhere. Goodbye good sandwiches and small soups. They serve expensive lunches that don't showcase the baked goods at all. Damage. This restaurant was a great attraction of La Malbaie, this is no longer the case. You can still buy good pastries there. Bread is expensive and if you buy special bread, it may not be very filling.

We have been to Pains d'exclamation! many times in our annual trips to La Malbaie since 2008. We have always found delicious artisan breads and excellent baguettes in a bustling, somewhat hectic (in a good way), and convivial atmosphere. Not this time. Since last September, everything has changed. The decor has been altered, local products of all kinds (honey, teas, and others) have been eliminated entirely in favour of a wine shelf...but most of all the bakery products have gone downhill. The only baguettes on offer (in late morning) were far from the artisan product of the past - dry, dense and tasteless. The shelves that used to hold so many varieties of bread were half empty, and the selection of pastry goods was limited. What a disappointment! When I inquired about the changes (and I speak fluent French), we were told curtly that the management had changed. Clearly, the person behind the counter had been asked this question before. Sadly, we discovered that the local Metro provided better bread, and that's where we will go next time. Such a loss!

We went towards the end of the day when there wasn’t much left so ordered a croissant and a coffee. The croissant was fine, the coffee not very well prepared (basically a cup of foam). Staff were not the friendliest. A shame as it looks like a very nice place! Maybe we were just unlucky.

Went for breakfast this morning (Nov 17). Staff were very helpful and accommodating in our attempt at french. The food was very fresh and tasty, especially the bread/toast. If you love sour dough bread, especially toasted this IS the place to go. The environment was cozy and friendly. I would recommend this place.

I seek out real croissants whenever I can. While my wife and I stayed in La Malbaie we came here every day for breakfast. Their coffee is outstanding and I had a plain croissant every day, my wife went with the chocolate croissant. They were wonderful, flaky and buttery and incredibly tasty. You may have to be patient, this place does a roaring business, lots of eat in customers (the breakfast plates looked really good, and really popular), but in my humble opinion, well worth the wait, because the products are sooo good.

We had local Charlevoix cheese and baguette it was amazing enjoyed every bit of it. We actually wanted to return here on Monday but they were closed. Would definitely go back again.

Stopped for a quick bite before hitting the road. Very popular local spot, service was quick and well done. Good variety of lunch options and desserts. Pizza sub was very good, as was date raspberry square and oatmeal date cookies. Enjoy!

Really good coffee. My latte came in a bowl for some reason, but honestly, it added to the experience. They offer dairy free milk and that’s always a plus. The bread was also good and relatively fresh.

Waiting close to a half hour for a decent avocado toast is a pretty frustrating way to start the day. The bread itself was underwhelming and the thought of lining up for ten minutes for a coffee refill from a counter person who seemed unable to smile caused us to look elsewhere fopr more caffeine.

Went there for breakfast and was surprised at how really great it was. A fun experience, a great breakfast, and a great bakery. I will go there every time I’m in La Malbaie.

Good coffee, excellent pastries and very friendly staff. The decor is quirky and like something from the 1970’s, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Recommended for breakfast.

Central location, lovely ambience, really good food and beverages, reasonable prices. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially considering our basic French.
