I was looking for a place to met up with a friend from Oxford. Somewhere half way between where we both lived. We had not been to old Amersham before this visit. What a wonderful surprise to find the Artichoke. It was kindly recommended by Gilbeys as I tried to book a table there first, but they were full, thank... More

After a disapointing dinner in the Goring Hotel Restaurant recently this was a real treat. The food and the service was excellent. A menu with character and food tastes which did not disappoint. My passion apart from food is wine and again they did not disappoint, really nice wines by the glass giving one the chance to try different wines... More

Not the cheapest restaurant in Amersham but certainly the best. Went last week and their new tasting menu, 7 courses plus little extra's. Combined with the wine flight this makes for a truly great experience and at a fraction of London prices.

Had dinner here, as a birthday celebration. We decided to stick to the normal menu, rather than the tasting menu, but were very happy with our choice. The food was excellent and service was very good.

Had a wonderful family dinner, our waiter was lovely and the food first class. Would definitely recommend booking a good table, but a great night out.

We went for the five course set lunch at £38 plus a three glass wine flight for £18. The welcome was very professional and friendly and we were shown to our table opposite the semi open plan kitchen. I always like to see what is going on in a kitchen as it gives you the air of confidence, that they... More

Having thought about coming to the artichoke for a while we decided to go for lunch. We decided on the tasting menu,6 courses. Each course either tasted great and didn't look appealing ( the brill) or just wasn't satisfying. Especially the hogget pastilla which didn't match at all to the rest of the menu ( lamb samosa with houmous and... More

This is a small place with a lot of attention to the guest. Friendly staff, knowledgeable and great food. We indulged our taste buds with the taster menu, you get a real sense of the attention to detail in every dish on a mini scale. There are appitiser portions and enough servings overall to really fill you up if you... More

An award winning dining destination in the centre of beautiful old Amersham, the Artichoke restaurant has been tipped for the top by critics, chefs (including Raymond Blanc) and, rather impressively, the Michelin Guide 2011. The traditional setting of Artichoke has been given new life with a slick contemporary country makeover in which comfort and style sit side by side, colours are muted and soothing and the beautiful features of the building are allowed to shine through, a part of the carefully considered dcor. Chef and owner Laurie Gear oversees a refined modern European menu filled with charming additions including not only seasonal ingredients but foraged herbs, berries and flowers too and he and his team can be spotted hard at work in the open kitchen from the Kitchen Dining Room. Other spaces here at Artichoke include the glorious Garden Dining Room, opening out on to the bespoke herb wall and the Wine Room up on the first floor, leading in to the well stocked cellar and just right for sophisticated business dining. The perfect neighbourhood restaurant, Artichoke has certainly put Amersham on the map.
