Started the day with a tour of the farm that produces much of SR’s eateries with exception quality flora. This was a real treat for mam and I. Plants that taste of cola cubes? Yep. Top marks to Adam for looking after us. Then we...headed down to R&C for our luncheon. We loved the restaurant which is relaxed, bright and spacious. The (young) staff couldn’t have been nicer or helpful. They deserved their gratuity. We loved the three-course set menu which comes with a range of ‘snacks’ throughout. The back of house team extract full-flavour from the ingredients which charms, tantalises and surprises. Particular highlights for mam and I were the onion broth, pink fir potatoes with cheddar, Cornish crab, and the rhubarb infused with earl grey and with rice pudding. And the bread was quite simply stunning. This is fine dinning but in a more relaxed (and relaxing) way than some starred eateries which can feel either a bit processy or stuffy. And that’s our preference. R&C is very definitely a stratifying and rewarding experience. And if you’re able to do the farm tour, then you should. It’s a privilege to see the work, care and sheer effort that goes into the produce and the plate.More

Brilliant food and such expert staff. A really enjoyable experience and very nice to briefly get to know the staff. A must for everyone and make sure you partake in the wine pairing.

Where to start?! Set lunch meal to celebrate my partners birthday. Very understated, old property but contemporary decor. Greeted at the door. Staff either in black trousers, checked blazer, brogue shoes or aprons over shirt & trousers, very smart The staff are young, beautifully mannered...& extremely knowledgeable, theirs is a skill, they make you feel welcome & nothing is too much trouble. The food? Sublime doesn't do it justice. Beautiful, bursting with flavour, colourful & totally enjoyable.More

We've been going to this restaurant since it opened. The meal we've just had was 1 of the best we've had for years. The new chef is doing an excellent job. The amuse bouche 'snacks' were a bit boring this time but all the other...courses were excellent. Our starters and main courses all had a 'wow factor', even though we've eaten there so many times. Service is always excellent as the Rogan empire is very well managed. On top of all that, it's still 1 of the lowest priced Michelin starred restaurants in the UK. Not cheap by any means, but not over-priced like so many good restaurants in the UK are these days. Booked again to go in 3 weeks time, it was that good!More

Blimey, this place is good, seriously good. You get Michelin-standard food and service at a very good price. Cartmel is a lovely village. The growing Rogan empire - farm, restaurant, and informal restaurant - is well-liked here, and appropriately so. You don't get food as...good as this at prices as reasonable in many places. The set menu has plenty of choice. But it's also accompanied by an amazing array of snacks and artisan breads. The service is brilliantly executed, but ot at all stuffy. We loved the mix of efficiency and informality. Sp here's a place to make a detour to visit - extraordinary food and service in the most beautiful setting. Recommended.More

When you have a reservation at a Michelin-starred restaurant you arrive with expectations about hospitality, stunning cuisine and looking forward to an enjoyable experience. The room was clean and bright. The servers were well turned out, although there was something unnerving about how they lurked...and robotically followed their service-by-numbers drill. They had obviously been told to smile and make small talk but it's difficult to fake warmth. The room appeared to be choreographed to a routine intended to tick boxes on a Michelin inspector's score sheet and lacked a touch of authentic hospitality. We were served fresh bread followed by the amuse-bouche – an onion daishi with tapioca, which I thought 'clever' not delicious plus a pastry case with a fishy tasting cream substance and a rye cracker with mushroom pate. The smugness of the server suggested that we ought to have been very impressed with these. I wasn't! My starter was a scallop with spinach. I concur with Giles Coren's criticism of the current cost-cutting trend of serving one scallop/prawn/etc. in a starter described as such. For my main, I opted for the (extra supplement payable) lamb with asparagus. The plate looked attractive, with crocheted asparagus shoots decorating the sprig of asparagus. Unfortunately, the sauce/gravy was over-seasoned and the salt and vinegar totally overpowered the lamb. A dish designed to be instagrammed not eaten! I'm sure the chef who prepared it takes great pride in their interpretation of fine cuisine, however, the star item on the plate was ruined by too much salt. I can't remember the dessert which included chocolate and ice cream elements and was acceptable. On balance, a restaurant that's trying too hard and losing sight of the importance of serving food that tastes exceptional.More

Our second visit here and hopefully not our last. Staff are very attentive, knowledgable and friendly. The lady who showed us to our table had seen us arrive by taxi and asked what time our return journey had been booked for to ensure our meal...was timed to factor that in. Food was excellent and imaginative. A great dining experience.More

We had heard good things about the restaurant from friends so booked it as a gift for my husband. The welcome was warm and friendly and all the front of staff were helpful and kind. Our food, from the canapés to the final sweet treat...was delicious and pretty to look at moreover. We each made different choices from the menu, apart from the chocolate malted tart for pudding, and everything tasted wonderful. We ate some food neither of us had eaten before and we enjoyed every morsel. We are both keen to make a return visit.More

Exciting menu, a delight for the senses and to top it off engaging and friendly staff. Rogan & Co is a well oiled machine and sitting opposite the door you saw the pace unfold first hand. We had barely handed over our coats and water...and pre-starters were on the table. My head was in a spin watching staff quick step around us. I desperately wanted to press the pause button and slow everything down to half speed. The music was high tempo and a lot of my favourite songs but overall I feel the ambiance was out of tune with the excellence of the food. You may call me old fashioned but I do like a table cloth and I miss the charm and style of Mr Underhills in Ludlow, now long gone.More

Gorgeous food, very attentive staff. Lovely setting. We had an alcove to ourselves. In a party of 5, 3 of us had the wine flight which was delivered by a very informative waitress.

They would need to be of a reasonable age and able to sit at the table and not cause disruption ;) It's certainly not a restaurant that's very suitable for young children...

I believe there is a central reception area but the rooms could be spread around Cartmel. Suggest you ask the venue .
