Sublime in every single way! Words don’t quite do it justice. Every mouthful was intriguing and exciting The wine pairing was enticing and sensational The service flowed with effortless class and sophistication. I’ve eaten at many a Michelin star place ( 16 stars in total...) This was truly the stand out one in a league of its own. So much so we have booked to return. There is no escaping it was expensive . But boy was it worth every single penny!More

By far my most favoured and in my opinion the best restaurant I have ever had the pleasure in visiting. Each visit this restaurant seems to get better, how? When each time I believe it is perfect. Absolutely stunning restaurant with the most knowledgeable and...friendly staff you could imagine, nothing is too much for them. Finally, the food. Where do you start? Each course blows your mind, the flavours, the presentation, how can one restaurant be this good. I know for certain I will be back, I would recommend you book, enjoy this special restaurant and with 3 Michelin stars, you can understand why.More

Hands down, the best dining experience in the UK. Travelled over 6 hour there and back in a single day to experience this. Needless to say worth every mile and minute Dining at Aulis was an eye opening experience worthy of its stars, and will...leave a mark on our palettes to last a lifetime.More

L'enclume was admittedly on my bucket list of places to go, having such ridiculous accolades and being deemed the very best restaurant in the world. My partner was so kind as to take me for my Birthday as we hiked around the Lakes and boy,...did it live up to my astronomical expectations. The first thing we noticed when visiting in Cartmel (where we stayed for two nights) was that the village felt like it was dedicated to the restaurant itself. A gift shop, chefs running around the place carrying out their tasks but never being so busy that every single one of them said hello to us with a smile on their face. The restaurant is nestled at the bottom of a road and you would not be wronged for walking past it without noticing! As expected, my hopes were through the roof and I was unbelievably excited to go. Upon entry, we were seated in the dining room, a lovely big open medieval property with feature intact. The decor was minimal and beautiful. Tables handmade, every bit of crockery and plating all made by hand. Incredible. We were guided through the tasting menu across four and a half hours and I simply cannot go into detail of every dish but we were blown away by the impressive freshness and quality of every item given to us. Standouts included a phenomenal dish of celeriac and pike perch roe. It was deep, meaty with fantastic aromatic flavours. The seaweed custard and bone marrow broth was delicious, offering a freshness of the sea with the deep notes of a quality beef broth. The pumpernickel bread with the pink fir potatoes were the very best interpretations of a soup you have ever had. We enjoyed mains of monkfish tail and Herdwick lamb, both cooked to utter perfection. I was given a little additional cake course as Birthday wish and I couldn't have been more grateful. Service was unbelievable. The way they present food is genius, both of us had plates down at the same time as the staff seamlessly vanished leaving one to detail the food with a high degree of enthusiasm. The staff are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and they even signed a menu for me. I'm honestly very grateful for that. It is hard to put into words what a transformative experience L'enclume really is. It shows you how local produce can become the greatest food item you have ever tasted. It shows you that you can create interesting and unique flavours with the relative limited produce of the UK but importantly shows the genius of this team in making something truly special. I will always hold this as a special location and is my easy #1 of all the places I have been to. It left a strong impression and since then, I have found other fine dining locations bar from two just unable to hold a candle to what this place can do. It is expensive. Yes. But it is an experience worth doing. Big thanks to the team. I really wouldn't hesitate to return a second time. Just phenomenal stuff all round. I even bought a forged spoon and knife as a keepsake :-)More

Wonderful experience at an undeniably excellent restaurant. The 15 course tasting menu was stunning- each course was so flavoursome and immaculately presented. It would be difficult to pick a favourite as each course was amazing. The service was attentive without being distracting. The wine flight was well matched...and we will certainly go again. We had a 2 night package and had a great experience at Rogan and co ,the night before. The rooms were above the restaurant and comfortable and luxurious. Definitely worth 5 starsMore

I not going to go through the whole 15 courses but they are just fantastic. I also...met Simon and got a selfi with him, what a nice guy. We will be going back soon.More

First thing I’ve got to say is that none of what I’m about to describe is intentionally hyperbolic … L’Enclume is just that good an experience that I’ll probably struggle to do it justice. My second observation is that I’m glad I waited until now...to visit this restaurant. We’ve been wanting to visit for some time but it’s definitely something that I’m glad I’ve built up to with other fine dining experiences first because it helps to be able to truly experience how great L’Enclume is. It at least helps with providing some context about how special this restaurant is. It’s cliche to say that a big part of a great restaurant is often that it’s humble in many aspects but then amazes you with what unfolds from there. With L’Enclume it’s true. It starts with the village itself. Cartmel is small, quaint and it’s almost a surprise that this great restaurant suddenly appears before you. From the exterior L’Enclume, with its simple name plaque on the wall, is very unassuming. Inside there are several features of the old blacksmiths that the building used to be home to. The main dining room is magnificent and the atmosphere straight away is relaxed but special at the same time. Right from the start the service is just on a different level than I’ve experienced before. The friendliness mixed with just the efficiency of how the staff work and tag-team with each other has to be a significant part of why it has 3 stars. Nothing is oversold and everything is presented and described with care and knowledge. Now the food. It’s a 15 course tasting menu and the recurring theme is that this is simply the best food I’ve ever eaten. The ‘snacks’ start telling you what this is all about. The beetroot and mackerel tart and then the Corra Linn pudding in particular were incredible. Everything exceeds expectation but the the menu really steps up with a trio of dishes starting with the celeriac which has a great marrying of sweetness and smokiness coupled with the saltiness of the sauce (which was amazing to eat the remainder of with a spoon). From there was the amazing pink fir apple potatoes cooked in chicken fat which is almost indescribably good. Following that was possibly the ultimate highlight of the seaweed custard, beef broth and bone marrow. But honestly it’s difficult to say what the highlight dish was because my main observation is that unlike any other menu I’ve had this was relentlessly brilliant. The monkfish and the duck … the best monkfish and duck I’ve ever eaten. Then there’s the desserts and this is where the menu differentiates itself from many others. Sometimes the desserts on a menu don’t quite live up to the rest of the dishes but not here. In fact for some this may be their favourite part of the menu. The caramel mousse ‘anvil’ is the signature dessert and the tastes and textures here are incredible. Before you get to that you’ll wonder what you are eating when you tuck into the Tunworth cheese and malt crumb with its textures and temperatures and realise it’s a great start to a selection of brilliant desserts. There’s nothing else I can say but visit L’Enclume if you are considering it. Make the trip to Cumbria and treat yourself to something on a different level. And it is a treat. Fine dining on this level isn’t cheap but if this type of experience is something you occasionally allow yourself to indulge in then you have to come and do this at least once. You won’t be disappointed.More

This is simply the most exceptional restaurant and it is clear to see why it has achieved its third star. This was our fifth visit and - as with previous visits - we were delighted by the warmth of the staff (Tom even remembered us...from last time), the uniqueness and quality of the food and wine pairings and the faultless, warm, unstuffy but precise service. If I was celebrating something, I would come here.More

One of the best meals I have ever had - and I have eaten in dozens of 3-star restaurants in the UK and outside. Definitiely ranks in my top 10. Every dish bar one was, I thought, outstanding. only one I didn't care for and...that is very much personal. 15 course tasting menu is "reasonable" value for a resto of this quality at £250/head but a bottle of wine; champagne by the glass etc increased the bill to nearly £1000 for two. Cooking is creative; technically excellent; delicious........running out of superlatives. Ambiance comfortable and warm; staff super.More

I treated my son to this experience for his graduation. I was worried that it would be a bit much for him but he absolutely loved everything about it. The alchemy that goes into making every dish special and the way they pair the wines...with the dishes was a delight. We tried the standard and medium range wines for comparison and I would say that whilst the standard range was decent the medium range on balance was superior. That said the English champagne and the cider for the dessert course were lovely to me, not as sweet. We loved everything about it.More

I visited L'Enclume for dinner with my husband and daughter for her 16th birthday. The whole experience from start to finish was fabulous, the food, the atmosphere, the service was all just perfect. Watching the staff working in perfect sync was a just as much...part of the experience as eating the food. I appreciate that it might be considered experience but it was more than worth it and we wouldn't hesitate to return. We have eaten at a number of 1 and 2 star restaurants but this was our first 3 and it really did feel like a step up all round. My advice would be to try and arrange a taxi beforehand, although the restaurant did book one for us I think it can prove quite difficult given the location. Also allow at least 4 hours, we were there around 4hrs 15min and it just flew byMore

Tasting menu only. You used to be able to go at lunchtime for £70 but when they got the 3rd star they dumped this and now charge an astronomical £250 per head
