From the outside the premises does not look outstanding, but inside it is a little gem with a lovely atmosphere, polite staff and nice decor. to start I had crispy pulled pork & black pudding croquette with a celeriac and apple slaw, spiced apple and...date ketchup which was lovely and well presented. For the main I had battered haddock which was also good. Great place to eat solo, as a couple or as a family/group.More

Superb Sunday lunch and roast beef with all the trimmings , the beef is cooked perfectly to everybody's taste and not very well cut as it is in many pubs and restaurants but as it should be b-with huge homemade Yorkshire puddings plenty of potatoes...and vegetables and Lashings of homemade gravy We washed it down with local beers and her 2/4 for pudding as we haven't huge breakfast at a hotel l earlier in the day. Friendly and courteous service and everything went very smoothly I have been here before and I would highly recommend this fabulous pub and restaurant which is covid safe with plenty of parking and some outside seating.More

Booked for late lunch, well worth a visit- good reasonable menu & prices incl children’s too. Nice safe small play Area for children & v good size car park just off the A6 in Hale. Excellent food I had coley ( chunky tasty) fish, partner...had a Barnsley chop v large lean & tasty with sides of chips & new potatoes- these were v large sides we were pleasantly surprised so ended up taking the potatoes home with us. Locally sourced food & fresh veg too. Choices of drinks ,service, prices everything was excellent incl the spacing of tables & track n trace etc was noted. Dogs are welcome- we requested a quiet corner for ours so wasn’t disturbed- we will return.More

Phoned to book and the man was rude and abrupt, instead of asking me to repeat my name he said ‘WHO?!’. Got there and they had no knowledge of the booking. Was not made to feel welcome at all, everything seemed like an inconvenience. One...member of staff was friendly, the others either did not speak or were rude. When they brought the food out they brought it out one dish at a time resulting in a delay because the waiter could only carry one plate at a time, meaning meals were getting cold. Parsnips on the roast dinner were not cooked and inedible. Beef and cabbage were nice but that was really it. Chicken on another dish was tasteless too. Also inconsistent things on the roast dinners. Just unpleasant and a waste of money. Julian was rude to every customer who arrived, people trying to be chatty and he couldn’t even feign a smile. He also didn’t have his mouth and nose covered by mask. Not covid compliant.More

This is a lovely pub/restaurant with delicious, good quality food and a happy atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly, as were the other diners. The decor is bright and fresh and we felt really comfortable all evening. The Tavern is also very dog friendly,...there were three or four dogs (including ours) in the area we were sitting in. We were on holiday in the area but if we lived nearby we would definitely eat here regularly.More

Dined here recently for an evening meal and was more than happy with what we received. However the menu suggested on the website bore no resemblance to what was on offer. Don’t get me wrong the quality of food was very good, but was very...ordinary compared to the sample menu. Dining out for me is not about being fed alone, but a change from the everyday. Just felt sold short.More

This place exceeded all expectations ! Quit possibly the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever been served. I actually think it tops Bells of Peover ! Friendly staff. On first impression menu looks a bit limited but everything was amazing. Prawn cocktail amazing. Duck leg Bon...bons magic and even the soup was to die for. I don’t write many reviews like this but that is only as I don’t often get served food like this. One word to sum up this place. OUTSTANDING but not pretentious!More
