We've had dinner twice at the Eagle and Child this week, both have been really nice food and a warm welcome on both occasions. The collapsed bridge outside was no barrier as we walked from the northern end of Staveley and crossed over a little footbridge from the main part of the village. The new road bridge is a work... Six of us had lunch here today. It's the best old fashioned pub I have been in for a very long time. Very good food, beer and service at reasonable prices.

Visited here a couple of times and the pub is cosy, welcoming and popular. The food is tasty, fresh and good value. The pub quiz on a Thursday from 9pm is good fun and popular.

Called in late Sunday afternoon. It was warm and cozy inside with a lively atmosphere, friendly staff and pretty full. Our food didn't take long to arrive and was really good - I'm not usually a pie person but I went for mince beef and potato pie with chips and it was spot on after a cold day hiking in... More

Staveley is great for local walks of all levels of fitness. After a nice walk there is no better place to refresh with good food and locally brewed beers than the Eagle and Child. When the weather is good they have a lovely garden area by the river where you can eat and drink and see the odd kingfisher hurry... More

This was a lovely find, very cosy, and really not far from anywhere in the area. Food was good, had a good selection. Would come again

Ate here one evening with the family and we thoroughly enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere in this cosy country pub. Although we hadn't booked, the barman quickly scouted round and found us a table. Great beers on tap, and our meals were all tasty and filling. We will definitely be back!

Not one of your modern pubs trying to look old. This pub does go back to the 1800s It is a village pub which allows walkers in muddy gear and dogs. I have never had a bad meal here and the staff have always been cheerful and helpful even when it is full to bursting, which is quite often during... More
