£28 for 2 first class tasty pieces of battered haddock, a large portion of chips, 2 portions of battered onion rings and 2 beers. Served in complete as possible safety, well packaged to eat in, and almost half the price we usually pay for fish and chips etc in the Lodge down the road in Old Hunstanton, their fish comes ready battered from the freezer and is frankly awful. High recommend

Been wanting to try Erics at Thornham for ages and today we did just that. Went for a takeaway as soon as they opened. Ordered two lightly battered fish and chips with one mushy peas and one curry sauce. I must say I was really disappointed ☹️ the fish was very over cooked and dry and had no flavour, very bland. I also feel £20 for 2 medium size fish and chips is too expensive. Ok if they are really good but these were not good at all and over priced. We have had fish and chips in Hunstanton twice from different shops and each time they were lovely. I was really sad Eric’s wasn’t good. Sorry 😐

Eric's has reputation for being overpriced for fish and chips so we took advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out deal. Agree with anothrr reviewer that the website info is confusing about takeaways vs order in and take outside. Arrived at 2.30ish as thought we might miss the busier lunch period. Waited outside right hand door at rear of restaurant. Ordered food and given beeper to alert us when it was ready. Server was friendly. Sat on one of benches outside and anti-bac'd it as they don't seem to wipe down tables between customers. When food was ready collected it from counter inside left hand door. Fish in card boxes inside large white bag. Sachets of salt and vinegar included. If you want ketchup without paying 25p a sachet you might want to take your own! F&Cs (medium haddock) were hot and tasty. Just the right amount for me but if you are hungry might want to opt for large portions. Still didn't think they were any better than takeaways in, say, Hunstanton. One point - we were next to the wheelie bins which were overflowing. Notice on them said tell a member of staff if they need emptying. Did just that but no one came near them before we left some time later. Also, Eric, what about upping your green credentials and providing another bin for recycling bottles and cans?

Don’t know if we went on a bad day but we pre ordered our takeaway and was there at allotted time and then waited 50 mins before we got our takeaway and that was only because I complained. It’s the most expensive fish and chips takeaway I’ve ever had and the quality was average at best. They even got our order wrong but as we were so delayed we hurried home to feed everyone without checking it first. COVID chaos. If you order online it says to wait in car but no one comes out so we went to entrance. . No one is outside to help/advise so I went in and told them of our arrival. They confirmed my order and advised they were just finishing it. 50 mins later with many other frustrated customers and or people with later time slots arriving and collecting their meals, I complained. I was told they were still cooking one of my items. The staff seem young and disorganised with no clear management. Wouldn’t recommend this place

Can't quite understand the devotion people have to this place. There are loads of places for great fish and chips in North Norfolk and this has a reputation of being the priciest. Thought I'd give it a go however as the government are currently giving our money away as free food. Checked on govt website that it was in Eat Out scheme and then the fun started. No mention of the scheme on website though but a banner asking to order online. Click and collect & then sit in restaurant or outdoor seats apparently. I thought there would be option at checkout to 'eat out to help out' but no. Called Erics and some irritated chap explained that the discount was not available on takeaway food, which I knew. We are only doing the takeaway menu he said. I explained I'd seen they were part of the scheme though. He said 'we are, you just have to turn up if you want the offer. ' M: But the website says you want people to click and collect? It's not very clear. E:I'll speak to someone about it. M: OK, so I just turn up, order food and take it outside but it's not a takeaway? E: Not if you are on our benches. M: OK I think I understand, I'm thinking of coming around 2 is it likely to be busy, am keen on avoiding crowds at the moment. E: How would I know? it depends on the weather and how many people decide to spend their holidays at this end of the county. Impossible to say. Funny really. You'd think working there he might be aware of footfall, trends, seasonality and all that. More so at the moment when they have a duty to ensure social distancing is in place and that their clientele might want a bit of encouragement. I know what you are going to say, why did I go after this 'customer service'? Well it has good reviews for food and I could eat for half price at a place i now certainly wouldn't otherwise visit after my unenlightening phone call. Turned up, no queue, woman on counter charming, u r given a bleeper to go and pick up a paper sack containing boxes when food is ready. Then you sit and eat it in an uninspiring car park. Whole set up is a bit odd. A load of outlets with an industrial estate feel but in the middle of the countryside. Would I go again? No Were the fish and chips good? At half price they were excellent but there are lots of other places along the coast serving excellent fish and chips.

Our first visit so not sure what to expect. It just happened to be a central meeting point for us to meet other family members for lunch. We ordered our meals and had to wait a little while for it to be ready - not a problem. Whilst waiting I noticed a couple of overflowing waste bins close to the outside seating area. It was clearly waste from the deep fat fryers. It didn’t examine it too closely as I didn’t want to be put off my lunch. They were there for a good 20 minutes but were gone by the time we had finished our lunch and returned to the car. Our order was a medium cod, chips and mushy peas, and a battered sausage and chips. When I opened my box I couldn’t believe how small the cod was, the battered sausage also wins my prize for smallest one I have ever seen! The story with the haddock was slightly different, those who had that in their box had two good fillets. In fact they struggled to eat it all and a lot went to waste. For my taste I felt the fish batter was over cooked and the chips were on the crispy side too. I’m not really sure what the cod tasted like because there was so little of it, wrapped in it’s over cooked batter, I couldn’t really taste it! Whilst having our meal I commented on how quiet the fish shop appeared to be on what was a reasonable day weather wise and lots of people milling around…perhaps they have been bitten before? Nearly forgot this…after two earlier orders had been collected I knew mine should be next. I stood around waiting for a while then noticed a bag on the counter, I don’t know how long it had been there. I went to the order point and pointed to the bag and asked if it was mine. The young woman on the till casually turned around from the window, got up and said it was. She then looked in two minds whether to let me have it or not because there was another young woman who had been giving bags out from the other side of the counter. Eventually she made her mind up to let me have the bag. I wonder just how long our lunch would have sat there if I hadn’t had the presence of mind to enquire about it?

My partner and I thought we would visit Erics’ after hearing so many good reviews… So we took the puppy for a visit! When we arrived we sat outside the front of the restaurant on the benches… I went to order the food from the takeaway hatch and on the tv screen it said there was a 7 minute wait! Not a problem… After ordering the Aranchini balls with small chips and mushy peas for myself, and sausage chips and curry sauce for the other half I then had the long wait…. I was waiting for around 20 minutes, for not much food and the wait time was meant to be under 10, my other half thought I was a missing person as I had no signal…. When the male member of staff gave me the bag of food, I asked him for salt and vinegar… he said they had ran out of vinegar but there were sachets of salt in the bag… my first though was how on Earth has a fish and chip shop ran out of vinegar?!! Anyway I just wondered off and sat down to eat with my other half. When we opened the bag and boxes of food, immediately we thought the Aranchini balls and sausage looked rather cremated/over cooked.. and I could not find any salt either… So I went into the restaurant area to try and get some salt. After trying to get someone’s attention for a while a member of staff came to see me. I told her I had got takeaway food, and the male member of staff there said they had ran out of vinegar and gave me salt however I had none in my bag.. my patience was eating thin and I said to her ‘can you just get me some salt and vinegar please?!’ The lovely lady managed to miraculously find salt sachets,…. And even Vinegar sachets which they had ran out of?! As we then sat down to eat, the chips were okay… but the Aranchini balls and sausage was very burnt and crispy. The sausage was the smallest chip shop battered sausage of seen and the curry sauce had a funny taste to it and was like water…. Safe to say we will not be going to Eric’s’ again and I only regret going, spending £17 to be waiting 20 minutes for fish and chips, to then be told lies that they had ran out of condiments and eat burnt food!

We came today to collect a takeaway order after using the new app, and thought the food was great! Everything was cooked well and tasted great too. The only thing was that you should definitely check your order as we didn’t receive one of our fish & chips so had to share out everything so everyone could have something. I don’t think it probably helped that there were 4 people waiting in the restaurant for takeaways when we came from the the car to collect ours so the staff were probably very busy.

Visited as part of a short family holiday in Thornham. I queued for about 10 minutes to put in a fish and chip order, and it took about six minutes to cook (would have been shorter but I ordered a battered mars bar). Really excellent batter on the fish - proper beer batter and fried in dripping; the chips were good, but not amazing. Dinner for the three of us was about £35 (including a £6 can of beer - yikes). We left very full and happy. And the battered mars bar was excellent. Plenty of seating for us (arrived at 6pm on a Thursday); a little children's play area kept our daughter busy while I was queueing.

We have been there before and loved it. Great taste and a lot of food. We went again thinking it would still be the same standard. We both ordered medium meals which came to a price of around £20 for 2 people. When it came after a 10 min wait, we were disappointed at the fact there were barely any chips and one tiny sausage. There seemed to be more vinegar packets than chips. It seemed like they gave us a small meal in a medium box. Except from that a nice place with a playground and also WIFI. Hopefully it can be better next time.

We were actually parked in Brancaster when a fellow visitor parked up next to us and promptly began to tuck into what smelled to be delicious fish and chips. I took the opportunity to see where he had got them from and so decided to visit the place. Yes Erics fish and chips Thornham. What a little gem. Loads of parking in what looks to be a small business park. Erics comprises a restaurant or take away service. We opted for take away. Nice pleasant staff took the order two Haddock and one portion medium chips which was made to order in 10 mins came in boxes and carrier bag eating irons salt and pepper total was £14 give or take a bob or two. Food cooked to perfection fresh tasting fish pure white with a lovely thin batter chips hot and dry. No grease here. We sat outside in the garden area in brilliant sunshine, super!! Will defo return next time we are in the locale. For those not wanting Fish and C. There is an Erics Pizza place next door. Joy.

Say their fish and chips are different to others by the quality they offer. They should check what they are serving. The plaice was presented with no wow comment from me.The plaice was curled over and the fish content beneath the batter was minimal to say the least. At £7.50 for fish and £2.50 for the chips I expected better. After commenting when I paid I was told that the plaice was not recommended. if they new that it was not up to standard why were they offering it.Would not rush to go back again.Other much better options not far away.

Good to see a company taking the initiative and trying to work in this dire situation. We ordered online and given a slot to collect on Saturday, 5 30 to 5 40. Having arrived 5 30, you walk up to the table, call your name and the food was in my hands in a few seconds. All wrapped in boxes and in a bag. And you can get wooden knives and forks too. Great, hot, tasty. Well done By the way, took our own vinegar which I smothered over the food, many times, and by the time I had finished, there was a hole in the box and the mushy peas was on my lap. Very funny, and not Erics problem, just me!! Enjoy

We ordered a takeaway and we were able to sit in a booth whilst waiting for it to be freshly cooked. There was plenty of hand sanitiser. The fish was very fresh, not overly battery although unevenly sized, so one of us had a noticeably smaller piece. The chips were fresh and hot and two large portions was more than enough for 4 people. The mushy peas were good and the curry sauce was excellent. The portion of pickles (non-deep fried if you request) was plentiful. Overall, a stand out fish and chip shop and a 4 instead of a 5 as the fish size was uneven.

Called in yesterday, placed order,Shocked at the price, £8.50 cod and chips £5 cod on its own, quite busy, a few people waiting for take away. 20 minutes later still not been served, I complained, was told there were to orders in front of mine. I asked for a refund he said no not really everything is cooked to order. I said how long he said 2 minutes, which happened. The single cod was quite small, The batter on both was soggy the fish didn’t fall apart. The best thing were the chips and I’d only give them 5 out of 10. Definitely won’t be going there again.
