Five of us dined here last evening - three locals and two visitors from Europe.
The extensive menu was in a time warp, reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s, in the best sense. There was not a single nod to contemporary Chinese cuisine. Every favourite from a bygone era appeared on the menu.
We ended up with three mixed plates, a chicken dish, and deep fried scallops. What a treat! This was no cheap Chinese junk food. It was well prepared and presented, flavourful, colourful and excellent to the senses. It made sense to serve the scallops last, which meant these large, plump morsels were fresh and crisp from the fryer and, at a cost of $39, tasted sensationally. A true highlight. Various rice dishes accompanied the meal, with the special fried a little restrained in the variety of “additions.”
Sometimes a visit to a country town can be depressing as time stands still. In the case of this restaurant - thank goodness!
My only suggestion would be to improve the very basic wine list.
As we were friends who hadn’t met up for some years, the sense of nostalgia was great.
The outstanding food and ambiance complemented the evening perfectly.
This was indeed a country tribute to excellence.

Our visit saw table 7 sharing 7 meals plus rice. There’s plenty to choose from. All the meals were tasty and a generous size but nothing was outstanding. The veggies were cooked perfectly. Good solid Chinese. Plenty of take away business whilst we were dining.
The entrance is up a set of narrow stairs to the first floor.
Considering the restaurant was basically empty it did take a fair while to get our meals. However they were very accommodating ensuring that the vegetarian meals were delivered first as our vegetarian dining partner usually has to wait till last.

This is a great place for large tables, we also see business parties here all the time. The owner and staff are attentive and the food is classic chinese. Had the rainbow beef in birds nest for our last visit. I love their san choy bow and the duck dishes are delicious. Husband had his favourite this night, the salt and pepper pork.

The starter was fantastic and me and my friends were looking forward to our main course. We all chose a different chowmein it was very watery with no taste and instead of noodles they gave us spaghetti very disappointed won’t be going back anytime

We just finished a delicious meal of excellent Chinese food in a country town where we had no idea where to go. Lovely hostess, and the cook out back is a Shanghai Chef. We enjoyed large Special Fried Rice, Mongolian Beef and Combination Chow Mien. The venue is large and friendly, with clean facilities. Size of portions were generous with yummy flavours. If we are ever back this way we would definitely go again, also chat with the hosts for their suggestions. 5/5 from us.

This is one of the besr chinese restaurants that I have eaten at.
The decor was simple but nice. The food was really great. Chicken corn and wonton soup - yum
Steamed dim sims were the best I've had. The outside was so thin and so much tasty filling. Extra yum
BBQ pork - very tasty
Schaun chicken - very tender and just the right amount spice.
Wine list not big but enough choice and not over the top prices.
The waitress was friendly and efficient. The food was served at a good pace.
We had a very enjoyable evening, really enjoyed the food.

Besides climbing up a flight of stairs so not recommendable for elderly or handicapped the place was empty so NO atmosphere. It is a shame that the Chinese restaurants always try to adapt to what they "THINK" is the Australian taste. We look for the genuine taste and not with added sugar.... Prices and portions reasonable but service could have been more forth coming. Wouldn't go back!

Very simply decorated restaurant but tasty enough food and service. Up a long flight of stairs, but adds to the experience. :) Probably our poor menu selection was the downer in that we ended up with two very similar dishes, so would suggest owners might make suggestions on menu. We did ask for spicy for our third dish and got spicy, so that was great! Beer was cold and bar appeared well stocked.

I purchased a large special fried rice to begin my meal, It was dry and lacking ingredients particularly the egg. I'm sorry no egg in a fried rice that is lacking flavour says it all for me.

It's generally unexpected to have much seafood in a chinsese buffet but there is actually a lot of variety and the seafood is really tasty and fresh. Lots of different dishes available but the order menu is equally impressive. The bar has tonnes of options for what you want to drinks and they have lucky beers too! at the time the buffet was only $21.50! The waiter staff are also really lovely and helpful but never pushy.

We had read these reviews first prior to dining in which gave us a heads up on meal portions. My husband and I shared one entree and a main with rice which was delicious and the perfect amount of food.

We went on a Saturday night so we had the servery - the options were good, in fact most of them were fantastic. I tried the soup first - it was delicious. The satay prawns was delicious and so prawn generous I couldn't believe it. The other meals were also good. The only issue was that I didn't get to try some because the food was only brought out a bit at a time and a lot of the time many of the trays were empty so you just had what was there.
Still we had a really good meal which was well cooked and great tasting. The takeaway did a huge trade too.
